Got a question on the daytime running lights for a ram 1500 2018 year. Why has ram elected not to include this in the classic 1500 series. What’s the easiest way to accomplish adding daytime running lights to this vehicle period. I have seen some YouTube videos were it can be done with the Alpha 0BD programmer. Anyone have any experience with this. Thanks for any feedback

I added them to my 2017 3500 using alfaobd and an mx2 adapter. It was easy enough and now the option shows up in the 8.7" radio screen.

I believe there is a product called Tazer that plugs into the OBD2 port that can perform a lot of those same functions that might be easier to check out.

+1 for AlfaOBD and the MX2 adaptor. I'm sure there are other software/hardware combinations that work too but I've only tried the one.

Not only can you enable DRL and the ability to turn them on and off from the radio/settings in the dash, you can choose which lamp is used and if you select a standard type bulb you can adjust the brightness by changing the voltage feeding the lamp.

alfaODB (with interface ODB Adapter) is a Programmer (Like taking your truck to the Dealer) once done you need'int leave it plugged in products like tazer need to remain plugged in to rewrite most of their mods, also they are typically locked to 1 VIN whereas the alfa is multi mopar usable

Yet another vote for AlfaOBD, I added the dedicated DRL circuits to my truck although it originally had quads. The Alpharex headlights I added to my truck had separate DRLs, those now function like factory DRLs even dropping out when the turn signal is on.

So if I have quads on a big horn .... what do I need to add the circuits?

More than likely your BigHorn will have the wiring from the BCM up to the plug under the fuse box like my Outdoorsman as they are both based off the SLT platform. Check to see if you have the #8 & #23 pins populated.
If the wiring is there then contact M² Mods for the extended length pigtails for the left and right side DRL circuits.

Or you could just use the high beams as DRL. I enabled the highs this way and they come on at 50% power. Enabled everything else and they function correctly.

IIRC, DRLs are an option that is enabled for trucks exported out to Canada.

There are directions on how dealers can turn your DRLs floating around the internet. I downloaded and printed it out and took it to my dealer when I first bought my truck. Service guy looked at me strange saying most people bring their cars in to have DRLs disabled... I'm the first customer he knows of that wants the function enabled. They were able to enable the DRLs with no problems (and no charge to me).

edit: I think this is the paper I brought to the dealership:

Do you have a picture of what to look for? I know what the #8 and #23 are but not what the wiring looks like

The plug that those pins are in is under the fuse box, mounted to the front side closest to the headlight. You have to lift the part with the fuses up. I wouldn't be till much later could I get you a pic

Cheech....I have a 2017 2500 SLT that came from the factory with quads. I added DRL's. NO WIRING WAS NEEDED. To add the DRL's I just made the changes to the BCM that were required to activate the DRL's. I used the AlphaOBD program to make those BCM changes.

The extra wiring is for the dedicated DRL circuits to each headlight, that wiring is only on trucks with factory projectors. The dedicated DRLs are different from using the High, Low, Turn or Fogs which a Quad truck without the wiring is limited to.
The top brow light on my truck is the dedicated DRL which the extra wiring is needed for.

@CAG CheechDogg a picture of the plug you need to get to.

The wires from the BCM are on the left and you can see the two I added coming out of the right side of the plug.
There is four tabs you push in and the fuse box lifts out. The plug itself needs to slide left to remove it from it's mounting.

So what does the harness that we need look like? And how do I get it from M2?

It's not a harness, your adding the two individual wires for the left and right sides.
Send @Mpgrimm2 a PM asking him about making up the wires for the DRL circuits long enough to reach in one piece. Let him know the year and model of the truck. The ends are two different sizes so you can't mix them up and come with plug weather seals. When you go to put the wires in, after you separate the plug the inside face of the plug gets lifted up before insertion the wiring.

Well I am confused. He said he had Quad lights. I took that to mean he had the stock quad lights, the same as I have and which is why I posted what I did. The headights in your post are not stock and of course extra wiring is needed. I thought he was going to use the stock quads.
