I was not posting it to throw it in your face. Just a FYI to others.

I just figured that out from your link posting previously as I noticed other listings of the Mopar P/N were showing both the Toyota and DENSO P/N cross reference. A little search foo on those showed me the used ones.

FWIW, I made a $17.99 offer on one of the $19.99 used listings and they took it. They may even go lower if tried.

Oh, no offense taken. I think it is good that people can find them for cheaper to save some money. I'm sure they are all made in the same factory, one gets put in a Mopar box and sent to Chrysler and one gets put in a Toyota box and gets sent to Toyota and they each put their markup on it, and then there is the used market where it is even cheaper.

Obviously DENSO is the OEM here. I am just surprised there would be cross compatibility between Toyota and Chrysler as usually either would change it just enough like maybe the connector keying to make it not work in the other.

For curiosity sake, let us know how the Chinese resistor works. I was eyeballing that listing a few weeks ago but was hesitant as some of those Chinese copy-cat car parts can be suspect. Been burned on that before.

Udate Failure????

Just took my, new to me, 8.4AN to the dealer for the latest software update. On way home I noticed that the nav screen was stuck on "navigation is activating". Still stuck there.....service dept is closed. Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion for me to try. Everything else seems to work ok.

Went online and downloaded the software but haven't tried a re-install.

Thanks

I would try several on off cycles. If that doesn't help might want to try disconnecting battery for 30min first before reboot. Might not help but worth a try and not as drastic. Check your radio to see what firmware dealer installed just to make sure it is correct.

Software is correct for the VIN. Everything else seems to work. Will disconnect battery and try that first. And...........on this update there are NO Ram themes like the prior version?????

Haven't found the soft reboot instructions yet......lots to look thru.

Thanks for the help.

If you push and hold the temp up and down button at the same time it will put you into dealer program mode. Just curious what year is the radio supposed to be out of.

Two others have had this issue before and described the same symptoms as you and ended up having to get new radios. I'm assuming yours is a factory installed radio that came with the truck? If so, please let us know the dealer solution or if one of the aforementioned fixes worked for you.

Unfortunately I was thinking the same thing but hoping it wouldn't be the case in this situation. I am curious as well if this radio came with the truck. There must be something we are missing why only some radios seem to have this problem.

It's out of a 14 3.0 Longhorn, according to the vin #. Was working great before the update??? Been sitting with battery disconnected all night and gonna try it again.

Thanks.

No, this is an upgrade from a 5.0. Out of a 14 into a 14. Was working great until I had the software upgraded.

Thanks.

15.26.1 is flashed and showing on my system info.

Guess I really screwed up, did the reset thing, now I don't have a NAV button or XM!!!!!!!!

Hope the dealer tech can help me out next week.

I dowloaded the the above update myself just to see if a reload would do any good but it doesn't recognize the usb when I put it in?? Don't know if that's because the version is already installed or what.

I think the update wiped out the Nav software. In settings there is no NAV Server and no Database Ver....it was that way before I did the reset and a reset did nothing for the NAV except wipe out the nav button on the bottom of the screen. Darn, darn, darn!

The 15.26.1 is the correct firmware for a 2014 Ram pickup. Unfortunately I haven't seen anyone be able to get these radios back after this happens. I am at a loss as to why this only happens to some radios. I have seen some cases where the radios had a problem with the firmware update because the weren't actualy out of a Ram but instead maybe a Jeep or a Challenger but I don't think that is the case with yours. Just curious did your radio have a Tag soft key on the radio screen when you were on XM ? Just throwing it out there if it did your radio is out of a 15. I only ask because you mentioned you had the Ram themes and the 13 and 14 radios do not have changeable themes. As far as the dealer goes unfortunately they won't do anything you haven't tryed. Does you radio still have a warranty from wherever you bought it from?

I copied my fix for the USB not reading from the "z" forum where I had originally posted it. It may be a software driver issue that causes this to occur but this fix worked for me:

"I thought I could add a troubleshooting step for anyone that believes they may have bricked there RA3 or RA4 radio while trying to update the firmware. When performing the firmware upgrade on mine last week everything went as expected until I selected "Yes" to update the firmware and the radio rebooted. From this point on the radio would only display "Please insert update USB". I never removed the usb flash drive with the ISO image on it and could not figure out why it would no longer read the drive. After trying multiple flash drives I realized that the radio was not powering the center console media reader after it restarted to perform the update. I attempted to use a powered hard drive to continue the update but that did now work either.

Initially I had given up and had spoken with LKQ who was going to refund my money. In a last ditch effort, I resorted to trying to use the grey USB plug on the back of the radio with the following adapter I purchased from amazon to rule out the media reader itself as the problem:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I plugged the above adapter directly into the radio on the back where the grey factory plug goes and then plugged the USB drive directly into the adapter. The radio began updating immediately after the flash drive was plugged in and now is much more responsive then before with the old firmware.

So for any of you that think you may have bricked your radio, give this a try before chalking it up to a loss."

That's great information to have. Good idea!

No Dice

Used older firmware with same results. So, I'm gonna reload the one dealer installed and see if maybe he can get the nav software reloaded from the old VIN. Doubtful, but I'm gonna try. :roflsquared:

In the firmware version thread somebody should start a list of 8.4an radio part numbers to be avoided. Maybe there's a common thing with part numbers here.

-JT
Did any one start that thread yet?

I posted this in another thread but want to mention it here also...

I've mentioned this before, but maybe someone will consider it now since some are having issues with updated software. Unless I am misunderstanding the situation ...

** Will someone start a separate thread to host the software update file zips for the various 8.4AN's so people can roll back to previous versions as needed?

Mediafire or similar should work. This would make it easier for others to stop chasing down various VINs to use for updates also.

Hopefully someone with several of the files can do it with other files coming from forum members PM'd to the OP.

- 2013 8.4AN (RA4/VP4 NA, p/n)
v.XX
v.XX
etc.

- 2014 8.4AN (RA4/VP4 NA, p/n)
v.XX
v.XX
etc.

- 2015 8.4AN (RA4/VP4 NA, p/n)
v.XX
v.XX
etc.

- 2016 8.4AN (RA4/VP4 NA, p/n)
v.XX
v.XX
etc.

- Update directions
- useful info, i.e. format minimum 4 GB drive as fat32 vs NTFS, etc

PS:
I'm curious if the files for 2013, 2014, 2015 RA4's with the same fw versions (i.e. v14.25.5) have the same MD5 code or not.
