Yeah, looks like it'd be alot easier. Radiator is still out of the truck, starter, and exhaust manifolds, too.

I'm gonna stick a battery charger on it tomorrow, and I'll be back on it Sat.

Still haven't found that 1/4" drive rachet with the 10mm deep socket.

It's not laying on / under or inside a lift arm is it. The 10 mm socket will disappear,but it usually doesn't take the ratchet with it,lol

Regarding unbolting and removing the heat exchanger, will fluid leak out from the two holes I'm supposed to tap when I unbolt it from the TMU???

I will also put some 1/4" spacers under all bolts that bolt the exchanger to the TMU.

Your trucks been sitting long enough you shouldn't have much fluid leak out Ed.
If i remember right the TMU bolts don't need any spacers to go back in,the holes are deep enough the bolts will thread all the way in.

I have a 1/16 pipe tap and pipe plugs, also a 5/16-18 tap and 2 short screws, so I'll make the call once I get to that point.

I'd like to pull those hoses off the heat exchanger lines so I can hopefully get them out without cutting the steel lines, just to keep them intact.

Hell, a new water pump, fan clutch, and radiator hoses, and I'd have pretty much a new engine except for cam, crank, rod bearings, pistons, and rings, lol.

You might have been able to get the steel lines out without cutting then when the heads were off,but now that it's back together,the only way they're coming out is by cutting them Ed,as even unbolting the transmission crossmember and dropping the back of the tranny down till where the engines resting against the firewall still doesn't give you enough room to get them out.With the heads off,the engine would have tilted farther before the firewall stopped it,and they might have come out then.I wouldn't be to worried about cutting them,even if you wanted to reinstall them from some reason,you'd just use heater hose to splice them back together.

Alternator is attached, but I had to fight with the harness to plug into the back of it and it appears there's a bit of plastic missing on the plug housing, it latched in ok. The large cover over the battery terminal also decided to break for me, so I had to drill holes in it and zip tie it with one of my push pin ties.

Sometimes lost tooling ends up on the bench or elsewhere when you are interrupted or you realize you needed to do something else..... LoL

I did end up with 2 things I'm not sure where they go, a bolt with a 12mm head and a rubber elbow which might go with the airbox (maybe both do).

Bolt almost looks like a fender or airbox bolt,i don't think it's an engine bolt,and the rubber elbow is probably part of the pcv system or the make up air for the pcv system

I think both are for airbox, etc.

I think you're right,as the airbox uses bolts like that to bolt it to the fender,and the make up air for the pcv system ties into the airbox with a small elbow

On to the radiator, shrouds, ags, charge the battery. Won't get to smoke test it 'til tomorrow.

The rubber elbow is for the makeup air tube runs from next to the oil filler, goes to the top of the airbox.

The screw, I have no clue, I already had the 4 bolts for the airbox to fender.

Nope.

But, thinking it's possibly a body bolt? Because of the large diameter washer.

Just about done for today. Radiator, E-fan, lower rad hose connected.


Upper hose, t-stat, upper air box, ags, reservoir, grille, and shrouds are all that's left. Have to buy an air filter tomorrow.

Hooked up the battery charger on 10A, when I leave, I'll turn it down to 2A for overnight til about noon tomorrow.

No, those are zinc coated, and are accounted for.

I had that bolt in with my exhaust manifold bolts, who knows? I wasn't short any manifold bolts either.

Damn if I know.

That's the only extra piece of hardware I have.

Also noticed the radiator sits tipped a bit forward, I never realized it before.

Rad should sit straight up and down,so you might want to look it over close and make sure the bottom is in place.
It's definitely a body bolt of some sort as it's not an engine or exhaust manifold bolt.Are you sure you have all the airbox bolts back in place,as it sure looks like it could be one of them.
