Now I'm curious as to what they did to my dad's truck. His part actually failed their test and he had it replaced. I wonder what part they put on. I looked at mine after I got the truck and I see mines welded. My steering wheel is crooked though. Is there anyway to get the steering straight now? Where should I go from here?

That's why I bought the Mopar part, figured if they won't reimburse me I'm only out $130 I stead of $300+

I've also started seeing reports of the rubber boots on the synergy's splitting so I'm kind of glad I held off going down that road. I'll wait a little longer and see if anything comes out of the re-investigation and if not I'll buy the stock replacement part (maybe). Right now I just check it once in a while and it's staying tight for me.

If your dad's failed the test it was replaced with the new 2019 version. And no, you cannot adjust your steering wheel now. That would drive me crazy, I'd be right back down at the dealer telling them to un-weld it and make it right.

Yeah same here, but bought the part just gotta get the motivation to put it on. I put locktite on mine and hulk tightened it with two 15" adjustable wrenches. I don't think it's going any where.

well I'm going to put a message to FCA on this one because it does drive me insane. Thank God for forums. They cause me to spend more money but it's good stuff.

They put on the new updated drag link I posted a few responses back. That's the exact reason why I didn't want them touching my truck with a welder. And they just don't tack them in place they weld a whole flat, Why is beyond me [emoji1745]

mine is just tacked on my truck from what I saw. My dad thinks they still welded something. Now I need to look at his. So if the part failed the test and they got the old part in and welded it, is that a big no no?

I have two Gen5 trucks with the affected part. Had them welded per the recall. Wasnt a fan of this fix, but in the end what does it really matter how they fix it? It will no longer come loose, after this fix. My drag link didnt come till loose, until the stock junk nexen tires came part on the front end on my dually.

well if you can't adjust your steering wheel anymore that kind of sucks. My knowledge on this subject isn't very deep, but that's certainly annoying. Just seems like a **** poor solution.

In the future though if you need an alignment and your steering wheel needs to be adjusted to be straight with the drivetrain those welds need to be cut off. Not very convenient

You might've had a tech that had sense. I've seen dozens of guys with huge booger welds done on theirs.

So normally I dont like to complain about stuff but certain situations require it. Before this recall came out I noticed my steering wheel was off center so I immediately checked the drag link. Low and behold you could have turned those two nuts with your hands that's how loose they were from the factory. Now mind you at that point I didn't even know about the recall why because I was never sent anything on it. I found out about it on here from the great members on this site. So I called fca and dealers only to here about there bandaid fix. The best part is when I originally called fca then I finally got the thing in the mail and on the phone they make sure to ask are you aware of the recall to take liability OFF OF THEM. Now normally I dont worry about recalls but the thought of total steering lose is insane and mine was loose. Now the 2019s have the new part. So i called and opened up a case to try and get the new part instead of the welding bulls**t. I thought Stacey at Ramcares or FCA would understand who handled my case that a customer who spends 50k plus on a truck should have a new part like the 2019s. No they could care less instead they are rude as s**t and say we cant do anything but we will document it. Yep document it I hope it never comes loose and I dont hit a f**king tree. So explain to me how other members on powerwagonregistry.com had some dealers install the new 2019 part or hell I even saw a post were FCA paid for a new Synergy drag link reumbursement. Amazing how in today's world you buy a 2018 truck for 50k plus and a company like FCA cant spare a couple hundred if that for a new part to make customers safe. I tell you what I never had this many recalls for my Raptor nor did I ever have it in the shop at over 100k on my 6.2. This truck what 9 recalls, a bad head gasket and this bulls**t at 24k miles what a joke. I spent my money on a brand I thought cared about its customers only to be talked to like s**t. I got news for you FCA when you work hard for your money serving in combat and get treated like this just know I am switching back to Ford. Oh the best part one alignment shop wont touch my truck cause they said if its welded for RAMS safety recall they want zero liability cutting the welds off to center the wheel. Great FCA you make more money forcing people to go to a dealer for an alignment how is that legal and right ????? Rant over
FCA is incompetent. Kind of like that Bank of America too big to fail crap.Car companies and banks are pretty sorry too many times. This kind of crap issues with newer vehicles makes me appreciate my old non computerized and simple mechanical old truck all the more.

At least Ram is somewhat more active today than FMC was in the past. Back in the days of the simple mechanical vehicles as was my 1968 Mercury Cougar this car and the Mustang had issues of a seat latch failure. It took FMC nearly 10 years to issue a recall. Mine broke around 1975 and I had it welded. I fell into the back seat floor while driving down Big Tujunga Canyon, but I didn't crash or go off the cliff.

My 2016 PW drag link nuts came loose on a steep dirt mountain road coming down into Sheridan, WY. A non FCA shop had just aligned it. Again I didn't crash or go off the cliff. This was prior to the recall, but it didn't FCA 9 years on these 2014 plus trucks to react. Welding is the wrong answer though.
Carmakers are set up better to do recalls more quickly today because they like to sell problem vehicles and then fix them later.lol

i wont have the part in my hand for another day or so but im assuming its a soft rubber similar to factory boots ? from speaking with synergy it sounds like theyve been selling quit a few units, do you have a guess how many have cracked ? if theyve sold 200 and 4 boots have cracked, doesnt sound like a big deal to me. but more info would be helpful if you could provide it

I lot of guys "were" getting them reimbursed 6 months ago (give or take). After it caught on and more and more people started doing it FCA stopped paying for it so if you try it now you Will get turned down. That door has closed.

With that said, the NHTSA has re-opened the case on this and has asked FCA to go back and look at the fix. Whether it will go anywhere who knows but the is hope. I have not had mine done as I refuse to have them weld a adjustable link. I do check it to make sure it is tight now and then.

https://leftlanenews.com/ram/fca-faces-investigation-into-ram-2500-recall/

Here is part of the verbiage..

"The agency will now orchestrate a more thorough root-cause analysis to determine if the 4x2 drag link is potentially susceptible to the same failures. Investigators will also be evaluating the long-term suitability of FCA's fix, which involves welding the nuts to the adjuster sleeve."

.
Yep exactly my thoughts especially since there is a new part out. I feel like at some point they will have to put a new part on legally. I think this welding crap is them stalling but then again nothing shocks me anymore. It's not them driving the truck what do they care. I hope they are forced to put on this new part.

So after reading this thread I started to get concerned about my weld drag link. I called my local dealer to get a price on putting the 2019 part on my 2018. I was willing to just pay to have it right. They said it wouldn’t fit as all the components have been redesigned and 2019 are completely different and that’s why they tow more. I basically left the conversation stating that doesn’t sound right. So, will the new 2019 part work on a 2018?

That's what I did with mine and its been fine for months so just waiting wanting a safe part. The best part is when I first checked it out with two big ass wrenches on it bracing myself to see how tight it was and the weight of the wrench spun it off lol. I was like uh hand tightened jesus lol made me feel so safe fca.
