Greetings to everyone..I have a 1992 dodge 1/2 ton Pickup 5.2 liter 318...previous owner has butchered the ignition wiring...I would like to Know if it is feasable to install a Mopar performace electrnic upgrade kit..Orange box..Distributor..wiring harness etc..rather than trying to undo the current mess..Thank you

Greetings. If you look at the place you posted this, this is section of the forum for questions related to 2019 and up Rams. For the 1992 units, you'd best be served by asking the question in the forum section where more of the owners of that generation of Rams hang out.

EDIT: Thank you to the moderators for moving this for the OP!

If you have a 1992 5.2 then it should be a Magnum engine. If it still has all the other pieces then no, you need to fix the wiring so the ECM can control ignition. If the EFI has been ripped out for a carb, then yes it is feasible. Unfortunately I don't think Mopar makes that kit (the orange box) anymore.

That was what was giving me hesitation..The crank trigger..Cam sensor..Etc..etc has to go..the electronic upgrade conversion kits are still available from JEGS...So I guess the situation is that even if those items were disabled..The fuel system EFI would still be a major issue..?

Yep. Original configuration is Best, IMO.

(Especially as any “old” machinery ages… at some point it begins to “appreciate” …rather than Depreciate…in value. Those “classic” units Always are More Valuable in “Original” configurations.)

Hope this helps.

Addendum: An example: I had a work-buddy who had bought a Turquoise‘57 Chevy coupe from the West Coast…and asked if I’d like to go with him to bring it home. Sounded like fun…
When we picked it up..he was beside-himself with glee.
I had to Fake it…. because it was actually a Chevy body …. some of it using chinese replacement/after-market body-panels…. on a Mustang chassis/drive-train.

POS IMO

Five years later his widow almost had to Give it Away after it sat on the market for almost 2 yrs before a buyer showed interest.
(rumor: purchaser planned to use it in a low-budget film-commission movie crash-scene)
