engine brake

Hey guys i need some info. I have a 2015 2500 ram and i pull a horse trailer bout 16-17000 pounds. The truck is going to 5000 rpm in a coasting situation. Say like i am coming off a hill i let off the gas and i will be at 2000 rpm and all of a sudden its at 5000. I have taken it back numerous times now and they are telling me that these trucks have an engine brake can anyone confirm this cause i can't find anything on it

Think you will find the only "engine brake" is the engine compression. That said, every time you apply the brakes, in Tow Haul, it will downshift a gear or probably, if your using cruise, will downshift if it gets much past your set speed. I would say, get out of the tow haul, lessen your speed a bit at the top of the grade, and manually downshift and try to keep the rpms around 4k. That's what I generally do when towing 13k 5'er. I also then use "sparingly" the trailer brake to moderate the speed.

Aren't you over towing capacity with the gas engine when you're pulling 16-17K lbs? For that kind of towing you should have bought a diesel. Much more power and much better mileage when pulling that weight. Plus then you'd have the exhaust brake which definitely helps!
