To help settle the age old threads about which engine oil is best I propose an informative, and useful solution. Attached to this post is an oil analysis report from Blackstone Labs that cost me $35. The normal analysis costs $25, but does not include TBN which is an incredibly important factor in your engine oil. If you want to participate please pony up the extra $10 for the TBN analysis because base number tells you if your engine oil is still neutral, or if it is becoming acidic which is BAD.
I think it would be very useful for anyone willing to participate to post data sheets from their own oil analyses, and in your post state the following:
Oil Brand: Mobil 1 Gold Extended Performance
Oil Weight: 5W-20
Filter: Microgreen
Vehicle Year: 2011
Engine: 5.7L Hemi
This information allows inclusion of the HD guys with the CTD, or the 6.4L Hemi. Anyone who wants information pertinent to their vehicle/engine combo can easily scan the thread this way. You will notice I left out a lot of "pertinent" information such as oil mileage, vehicle mileage, etc., but you will find that all this information is on the data sheets, and would only serve to clutter up the posts.
While this will likely show that all the top end oils are quite comparable it will also help differentiate opinions from facts. If anyone has any suggestions for modifications to the format of this thread, I am more than open to discussion.
