Engine roar

I have a 2013 1500 with the hemi engine. A week ago the engine started making much louder than normal noise when ever the rpms get above 2000. It is worst in first or second gear and even does it in park. Sounds like the engine is starving for air. The dealer had no idea when I explained it to them. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe take a video of the sound? Could be anything. Did it not make the noise when you took it to the dealer?

OP - Where are you located? It's probably just because it is so hot. I know it's hellfire hot down in Sough Georgia, my fan has been engaging more often lately. Does it every morning leaving work to go home. The fans on the Hemis are huge, they're gonna make a hell of a noise.

Yes, it is the fan clutch that was bad. New one is on the way.

Had that happen in a dakota once. Damn thing sounded like I was lined up for take off. Glad it was not worse.

I got it back and have been driving it for a day. I already see a 2.5 mpg gain. I think it had been going out for a while and finally just completely locked up.

Real question is why the hell does a 40+ thousand dollar truck even have a clutch fan anymore

My guess would be the idea was reliability since when being used heavily the truck requires lots of cooling... That makes this whole thing seem rather ironic though lol.

That is a good question. Chevy's still do I think. Or they did, not sure on the latest model.

I would think by now electric fans are way more efficient and reliable. Considering every car has one.
