Hey guys, my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 mega cab is making a ticking sound that sounds like it may becoming from the engine. Whenever it's just it just idles it makes a ticking sound constantly but when I'm driving and my rpms are lower the sound disappears. From the outside of the truck I can't hear too much standing in front of the truck but when I stand by the passenger door or driver door, the ticking sound is noticeable. Also I have the 5.7 hemi in it and it has no power. Anyone have suggestions on what it might be?? There is no check engine light on either

I was gonna say to check the exhaust bolts for tightness , or for being broken , but then you said " it has no power"

Please elaborate on NO POWER .

It doesn't have the acceleration like a 5.7 hemi should. People have been telling me to replace the egr valve but I want to get your opinion first

Tow it to a shop. It may have a issue with the timing chain.

Ya I've also got a 2006 hemi with a tick but it does have good power thoe...and it also sounds like it comes from the motor but the higher my rpms go the louder the tick....it's not very bad but it seems to be getting worse...but it does have the factory coils in it and has 125,000 mi. So I was wondering if replacing the coils would help anything??? Any info anybody

it's a mega-cab with a 5.7, it's not going to accelerate like a reg cab with a 5.7. but either way, i'd start with a basic tune up. ie plugs, PCV valve, oil change, air filter. Make sure the oil level is good as of now.

Hemi's tick. That's just a part of their character. There has been extensive discussion about it, and people have throw a lot of parts at it, but I don't believe anyone has found a definitive solution for it. Ticking isn't a problem for them.

A lack of power is though. Look for other symptoms. EGR shouldn't make a significant difference in the feel of pedal power. Emissions stuff in general isn't going to significantly affect the feel of power, unless its a symptom of something else, like a vacuum leak. That would most likely throw a code.
