The +/- buttons on my column shifter don't seem to do anything. I understand this is supposed to be the ERS control. Is there a way to check ERS functionality in AlfaOBD? Are these switches known to fail much?

If you press and hold - it should go to 1st gear.
I'll check in AlfaOBD as you say...but no, I have never seen a gear number displayed on the dash.
On my '16, if I hit the "-" button while in gear and moving along, it will set the ERS to whatever gear the xmission is currently in and I hit the "+" until it hits 8th gear on the display and leave it there. PS: It doesn't like to go into ERS if in 1st gear. Engine stumbles until I advance to 2nd gear or above on the display indication. It will then go into 1st gear without complaining and smooth as silk...On my '21 Warlock, tapping the (-) button while in Drive sets the ERS to 1st gear.
I tried holding the (-) button while traveling down the road at about 35 mph. Don't try that. It dropped into second gear.
Tapping the (+) button will enable the ERS and set the current gear as the maximum gear.
Holding the (+) button while moving with the current gear displayed will disable the ERS.
.
Was going to the say the same basic thing. I have a '16 2500. If I press the button while driving it will "turn on" to whatever gear the truck is currently in. My trans is the 6 speed. So if cruising down the highway with the trans in 6th gear it will come on and show gear '"6". If you hit the "-" button it show 5, and if you keep hitting "-" it will progress down to 4, 3, 2, 1. It will NOT always immediately downshift when you hit the button as you have to meet certain conditions. For example if you are running 70 mph and hit it down to 1 it will not downshift to 1 because you would probably lock up the tires or over rev the engine. Good chance it will drop to 5 and maybe 4th gears, but probably won't go any lower until you start slowing down. If you come to a stop with it in "1" the trans will not upshift out of 1. If you immediately upshift it into 4th gear, it also won't immediately go into 4th gear. It will upshift as normal to 2, 3, and then 4 but not go any higher. It will then go into 1st gear without complaining and smooth as silk...
Never tried just holding the buttons in, as I perceived something bad can happen while moving along. Figured I would read somewhere where someone did it and I could learn from the mistake, if there was one.
Guess my ERS button is not working. I get nothing from pressing either + or - when driving. Unless this was a feature not included in the 2017 Tradesman and the button is not connected...
I was unable to find that menu. Maybe because I'm using an android version?
I'm guessing if it's a 17 Tradesman in Canada,it'll be the 6 speed with the gear shift on the column. You'll usually get more help if you tell everybody what we're trying to help you with,as you were asked to do.Guess my ERS button is not working. Actually my mistake for not reading all the posts TB,he does say he has the column shifter,in his very first postBig time ^^^ DITTO ^^^.
Lots of really knowledgeable folks here, but they need to know exactly what you are driving:
Year, model, engine, what level of trim, (Basic/advanced dash), 6 or 8 speed, gear/rotary dial shifter, stuff like that.
YEAH I missed that too, isn't the ERS on the column than? Been a long time since I had a Column shifter in a RAM: I am sure thinking fuse out, vs not hooked up. But Internet Guessnosis at it's best.Actually my mistake for not reading all the posts TB,he does say he has the column shifter,in his very first post
