It's a drop in kit. He has two stages of cams. Stage 1 is suppose to bring 40hp and stage 2 is 50+. He said these numbers are on a conservative tune.

Jays cam drops right in and does not need a pase locker. He was actually done with everything a week ago. He has already seen large gains and he doesnt even have longtubes yet.

Whos cam gains 40hp with stock springs and no phase limiter? If youre talking about jays then yes it has no phase locker. They do require new springs and pushrods though. I talked to him last night and the cams are doing better than he originally thought.

Even on his Facebook page it says stage 1 can be run on stock valve train but it's not recommended. The lift he described in his past posts puts it within 10% of the stock spring's coil bind height but it can still be done, which is why he does offer the super budget build for $850. So, unlocked phaser and stock springs.

Because there are lots of people out there who don't want to pay an extra $350 to do it right, we see it time and time again where budget is the driving factor more than the desire to "do it right". I can't tell you how many supercharged 6.4L cars are still running the very fragile stock pistons even though for an extra $800 you can "do it right" and get the forged drop-ins.

The 10% bind height is a standard throughout the spring industry, but A LOT of places don't adhere to it. Personally I like safety factors, especially when it comes to parts in my vehicles.

I'm amazed the packages aren't cheaper though. I can get a LS7 Cam Kit with steel springs, titanium retainers, chromoly pushrods, plus an off the shelf cam and shims for $684. A custom cam is $10 more and titanium springs are $50 more. Both the LS7 and the 5.7L Hemi have the same number of pushrods and springs, and the cams aren't too dissimilar.

He did have 3 different accounts and brought it on himself even after being censored multiple times but he wouldn't change his methods, become a vendor, or respect the rules. I'm truly surprised it lasted as long as it did.

$810 a year? That's not all that much. Unless Jay just has no clue how to run a business he would have easily made that much being a vendor here.

These are custom billet cams?
Jay was going to offer a much cheaper stock regrind with 25-30hp gains but it turns out the stock cam isnt worth a ****.

I would imagine so. It's from Brian Tooley Racing, one of the bigger names in LS motors.

So I must be missing something here...

A Comp Cam for the 3rd gen truck is listed at $399.68. A custom grind is a minor upcharge there.
A set of hardened pushrods from Comp is $147.60.
Beehive 0.625" lift springs from Comp are $206.79.
Steel retainers are $53.98 and titanium are $237.42.

And those prices are all straight from Comp. I guarantee you could find them cheaper elsewhere.

So grand total for all that would be $808.05 with steel retainers and $991.49 with titanium retainers.

Does anyone else think the pricing on the stuff from Jay seems ridiculous? $825 just for the cam? His stage 1 kit only has .570 lift springs. I see no retainers advertised, but he has "custom" locators in the kit that allow you to use LS style Beehive springs. Not sure what the advantage is there. But that kit is $1,250 with pushrods.

The VVT cams are much more expensive than the older non-VVT cams. My Modern Muscle cam was $769 for just the cam, and that is about what the off the shelf Comp cams cost for the 09-up VVT motors.

That's insane to me. What's so different about these cams that they cost twice as much as the old ones to make?

Hell, my mustang had variable timing and it was only $700 for TWO cams.
