I have a 2013 Ram 1500 with a Hemi that is 100% stock. Last week I noticed an exhaust leak near the engine. Not sure when it started as I haven't had the windows down much lately. Anyway, it sounds like it is near the rear of the engine on the passenger side. Anyone else have this and where was it leaking from? How hard was it to fix? Been thinking about a new 2500 so going to weigh my options

100% will be your exhaust manifold bolts. This is an extremely common issues with our trucks. The cast iron manifolds warp over time causing the bolt heads to snap off. Even just replacing the bolts will cause them to snap again, you need either brand new manifolds(which will warp in the future and you're back to square one) or install shorty headers and fix the problem for good.

Saw that after researching some more. Looks like about $200 per side for a new manifold, gaskets and bolts? Do the headers bolt right up or would I need to make exhaust mods? Looking for a simple fix cause the truck will probably be traded in in the next 6 months

Yes shorty headers like JBA, which I would recommend over any other brand are start bolt on with nothing else needed. Drivers side can just be a pain to get in but doable.

But if you are trading your truck in 6 months down the road I would just have new bolts installed and wash your hands of it when it's no longer your problem.

It's not going to he fun or easy. If the bolt Is broken flush you will have drill it out. Try firing up your truck cold and see how long the tick last. If it seals up drive it to the dealer and trade it in lmao.

How interesting, my new to me 2009 with ~130K miles also ticks, but it didn't sound like it was coming from the exhaust.

Mine DOES sound like this, albeit louder ticking:

Mine does NOT sound like this, which I think is the manifold:

Googling, looks like the first thing to try at the next oil change is to use Redline 5w30 and see how it goes.

The top one is definitely broken exhaust manifold bolts. Guaranteed. Figure out which side and she'll be quiet as a church mouse again. The bottom video sounds like the worst case of HEMI tick I've ever heard, period. Also due to the fact that noise is not going away it almost sounds like the dreaded cam and lifter problem. And yes get some Redline 5W30 in there as soon as you can or at least something in a 5W30 in there soon.

So off topic question but just curious. Went on a 200 mile trip today then back. I drove my wifes car but followed my son. Yesterday he brought a 2017 Duramax 2500 home with him (company truck). Truck is 100% stock with 75,000 miles. All highway driving he said he got 20 MPG coming home 200 miles. Today I followed him back and he was towing his camper that is about 8000-9000lbs. He only got 9 MPG towing on the same trip. I always thought diesels got almost the same MPG towing as they did empty? I know this is a Chevy and the wrong thread but just curious.

BTW-wife said we are going to look at new trucks next weekend. I'd rather wait another 6 months but I'm online looking now...lol

My 2014 goes in the shop next week to have the exact same thing fixed, passenger side exhaust manifold. Last spring, I had to have the other side done. not even a year apart. Im just glad it's still under warranty and I don't have to pay anything.

Went and looked at a 2018 2500 Laramie. What a fiasco. The dealer we went to has 4 locations all within about a 5 mile radius. Told the guy I wanted to see the Laramie. They couldn't find it. They made a few calls then I told them I was also interested in the 2018 they had that was white with the black wheels. It was listed as an SLT but I think it was a Big Horn, not sure. Anyway, the truck was in their lot but they couldn't find the keys. They made more calls and nobody knew where the keys were. They then printed out the info on the Laramie and told me to go up the road to the other building and they would figure it out....lol. So we get there and the Laramie is there. Take it for a ride. Has 17 miles on it. The sticker is $60,000 but it's advertised on their site for $48,000. He comes back with a price of $52,000. Said I wasn't eligible for most of the rebates. Wife pulls it up on her phone and it says 'Web Price $48,000'. He says it's wrong and the price is $52,000. Wife mentions false advertising and he says they all do it. So they tell me they will give me $14,000 for mine. Not bad there. I was thinking $15-16,000 for trade in. Either way the difference was $38,000 out the door. I told them forget it. Told them the truck was a leftover and that I could go to about any dealer and pick any car and get $5000 off instantly. He said well this is a high demand truck. I told him if it was high demand it wouldn't still be there.
In the end I left with my truck. I really wasn't looking to spend that much anyway but figured I'd look into it.

I really hate car shopping

ugh. No warranty? Not going to be cheap if it isn't. Sorry about your luck. I traded mine in with the broken bolts. They sold my truck a few days later so not sure what they did with it. I'd say a good machine shop could probably get those bolts out. If not tell them you want that head back and take it yourself to get them out and sell the head to get something back.
