This is a little off subject, but we need one for our camper. The one it is equipped with is much bigger than a can of Pam. Any suggestions would be appreciated and purchased ASAP. Thanks!

i've been running around the back country, and something made me start to think about having a FEX in my truck. i saw a small grass fire, and realized that the nearest fire house is over an hour away.

anyone else carry one? what do you have and how is it mounted.

i was looking at the brackateer mount, and a kidde car FEX --
I mounted mine to the front of the front seat floor tray on the center hump. "Tis a small one, but is "ABC" rated. Hope I never need it, but if I do, at least I have it.

I bought both mine at Costco because at the time, they were far less expensive than anywhere else I looked.

IIRC, the first one I bought many years ago has a metal valve handle, and the more recent one is all plastic.

Update; LOL, I just found a recall from Pyrene for the plastic handled unit. They claim to supply a new replacement FEX, but the recall in about 8 years old. I'll check their call center tomorrow. That, or Costco says they will refund.

I have a '19 Longhorn with RamBoxes. I keep a 5# extinguisher in each Rambox. The fire is going to be outside and it may be impossible to get to one side of the truck. When Beetles were a thing and burned up regularly, I stopped to helo out the owner of one that was on fire. I got the fire out but didn't notice a small fuel fire on the road, which re-ignited the car, and it was lost. In another instance, my carb leaked and caught fire. I put that fireout with sand from the side of the road. It's dirt cheap insurance. HOWEVER, don't even think about ordering a Kidde through the mail, as the pins do not lock in place and the device can empty during transit. Hashtag HomeDepot hastag boneheads.

I have always kept one in my vehicle. Usually the pocket behind driver's seat. .. if you have kids , think about it, different. .. at 18, at work, a customer drove up and parked, started inside... His car was smoking under the hood... I ran out with FEX and hollered at him to open his hood, he was so confused... I yelled it's on fire. Upon opening, we find that ( older vehicles had an insulation blanket attached to hood) it was full of oil-blow by & in flames. I used the big FEX and got it out. But was scary. So I always carry. EZ access. Accidents always happen.

If I could find one I’d prefer to carry a Halon extinguisher. Years ago (late 80s) I sold small Halon extinguishers off my Snap-on truck. Minimal damage to all the electronics and metals. I’d rather see my truck burn than deal with the damage dry chem extinguishers can possibly cause for years down the road.
Carry a shovel for grass fires.

I forgot to mention I have been using the blankets as well. Now, I have never actually used one but they are there if I need to. They are one use products, so you leave them in the package until needed. My theory is this would be good to help someone stuck in a vehicle fire, at least give them a chance. Incredible deal 4 for 16 bucks, gonna buy some more for all of our vehicles. Nearly 4 sq ft.

If a vehicle has visible flames the only option is to get them out of the vehicle. Once the flames breach into the passenger compartment whatever is inside doesn't have much time before it's crispy.

I used to work the corner stations at the Texas World Speedway in College Station, TX for a side gig while I was putting myself through college at Texas A&M.
Former National F&C license holder here and I worked a National race at TWS in the late 70s.

Anyway, I've got a 5 lb. that I carried in my '98 2500. I need to get it in the '16 3500. It isn't doing any good sitting in the building...

+1 for what Havoc said about Kadde plastic heads. When I was a volunteer fire fighter we were told to avoid them like the plague.

Folks would be surprised at the number of people that have no idea on how to properly use a fire extinguisher. Years ago, I was involved in getting a couple of old people out of their camper because their truck was on fire and it was starting to melt the front of their trailer. I used my extinguisher to attack the flame but it was futile at that point.
The crowd was gathering and every one had their cell phone out trying to get their "photo of the year" ...... I wasn't much appreciated by the crowd when I told them to shove their phone and bring an extinguisher. Some listened.
It was quite the light show when the cab started burning and the country firefighters hit the steering wheel with water. Magnesium does some neat stuff when it is burning and water is introduced. Long story but occupants were ok but the truck was lost. (Dodge 2500 Diesel) trailer survived as well.
Origin of the fire was a generator in the back of the truck that was used to power the old lady's Oxygen concentrator. She told us that while lighting a cigarette ............... and to think that I risked my safety to help someone that stunned!!!

@DonF man I would have loved to see it back when they ran big races on the oval! I've only seen cars take the oval when CVAR ran some vintage Indy cars on it for exhibition laps. They weren't going terribly fast, and I understand it was pretty bumpy!

By the time I started working the corner stations there in the late 2000s, they only used the road course for the small local clubs. But it was solid side work that paid decent for a meagre college kid!

I screwed on some 50lb magnets to the back of the plastic fire extinguisher I bought and it's held in place thus far with several panic braking events. The only time I've had to put out a vehicle fire was when a transmission dipstick came loose on a friends Dakota during a dyno pull. The fluid hit the headers and caught on fire. I had a can of sprite in my hand and doused it.
