Long story short, I noticed some stuff in my cooling system that I don't like. I think it may be from when I swapped my thermostat and the water I put back in. It was labelled distilled, but I'm not so sure it was.

Anyways, I figure once I flush everything out of the system I should go back with a different coolant type that's more compatible than the factory stuff.

Since the system will be getting cleaned out beforehand, I don't see an issue with this as long as I use the correct coolant that's for iron blocks and aluminum heads.

Thoughts?

Don't flush it so soon, Run RMI-25. It will take any sludge or junk and put it in the overflow tank where you can empty it. Run the 16 ounce size, then go back to the factory flush schedule. RMI 25 boosts your additive package, cleans the sludge, and protects from rust, and conditions seals which really important with your OAT coolant. Of all the stuff I used or recommend, this stuff gets my highest recommendation. Has saved me a ton on some of the old vehicles I've bought with shot coolant systems.

Mopar coolant is crazy expensive, 5 or 10 year, now they have some orange stuff. Mixed that stuff in with the pink/purple stuff, no problems. 50/50 prediluted stuff (MS-9769G). There has to be some aftermarket stuff available.

Is there any particular reason not to flush other than cost?

I would much rather get EVERYTHING out of the system and start fresh rather than try and patch it. It's not like the process is hard, and the coolant and water is all of like $40.

Dubstep: Look into Peak Global Lifetime! It is the only coolant that I have found that has Very Similar Chemistry... If not the exact! I had a small pin hole in my bottom hose... Replaced the hose and chose to make the switch then...

As I understand it, Dex-Cool is HOAT as well and should work after a system flush.

Dex is OAT I believe. HOAT is the good stuff IMO, but I think you are supposed to use OAT.

Why did you put distilled water in it? Youre only supposed to pour the mopar coolant in by it self.

You sure about that one lol?

I've yet to see a vehicle that isn't a 50/50 mix.

Finished up last night. Truck seems to run slightly cooler, but it's probably just my imagination. I'll keep and eye on it for any future issues.

Apparently Dex is HOAT. All three major American manufacturers use it now. Chrystler was the last to switch.
