Changed the front diff after 4 years and 23k miles in sunny Northern Cali because I know it will get a lot of 4wd this winter in New England. This is a 6.4 2500 Cc lb.

The fluid appeared good, except for gooey crap sitting in the bottom of the differential, almost like additives dropped out of suspension mixed with little bits orangish smaller than a BB sized balls that were gooey and soft. Almost like little rust balls or RTV maybe. Not a whole lot of the BB’s maybe 7-10. I had to wipe the overall gooey mess out with my finger and torn up t shirt. Nothing really on the magnetic fill plug either.

does the front differential not spin or something when your in 2wd? I think the fluid definitely had some remnants of water in it, in the it look light, but was very cloudy. Glad I changed it.

Only 2.1-2.2 quarts came out, and I put back in till in weeped from the fill hole around 2.5 quarts.

I used delo 75w90 that does not have any friction modifier, full synthetic and $7-8 at autozone.

My user guide calls for 75w90 in the chassis section for gas engine, while it calls for 75w85 in chassis section of the diesel section. It’s a 2016 booklet.

probably change the unicorn tears bw44-44 next.

The only thing that is supposed to spin in 2wd is the spider gears. Reality is you get a bit of pinion rotation but no where the amount you would get without the axle disconnect.
