Just bought a 2012 Ram 1500 quad cab with a 4.7.
When AC is turned on the check engine light comes on.
Fault code is p0481 which is cooling circuit II.
I'm pretty sure the electric fan isn't coming on.
I switched the power window relay out with the fan relay and the power windows still work so I don't think it's the relay.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
thanks

Check the connection/power at the fan with the a/c on you might just have a bad fan motor.

Thanks for the reply wild one..
I unplugged the fan connector and tested fan with a couple of jumper wires from battery..
Fan works..
I have 12 volts at the fan relay which is on top of the radiator support by the hood latch.
If I bypass at the relay,the fan turns on.
It seems that something isn't telling that relay to close

@jws123
Thanks for replying, if fan works when I run hot from battery directly to plug,it means the fan is good right ??

You say you have 12 volts at the relay when the AC is on? Is there 12 volts there when the AC is off? If not, that relay needs to be replaced.

The fan working when you run hot to it means the fan is good. I am a little suprised the relay is by the hood latch, I thought all the relays were in the TIPM by 2012. Other thing to think about is there is also high side and low side pressures that cause the A/C compressor to engage so you need to check and make sure those are within limits. Low refrigerant will cause intermittent operation too.

@Dean2...this is one of the relays..the other one is in the Tipm...that isn't my truck but it is in the same location.
I got that photo off the internet.
This other photo is the underside of my actual relay connector that the relay plugs into.
I took out the wires and checked and cleaned them and reinstalled.
Fan still doesn't work.

@Dean2
I checked those wires with a circuit test light.
The only one that didn't make the test light light up was the brown wire with the blue stripe which is the relay coil signal wire from the Fuse box (tipm)

I tried to add some refrigerant last night.
It was in the green for a bit then it got too high really quick.
The compressor actually released some pressure from the relief valve.
Kinda scared me.
Not sure why they pressure jumped up so fast when I was adding refrigerant
