Good thing our Outdoorsman order didn't work out!

We made the decision and wrote a deposit check on Saturday.

Monday, find out they are having a problem ordering our bench seat in the front.

Wednesday, we are told that the system will not let them order the front bench seat with the Ram Box. (???)

While I was thinking, and thinking, and thinking about this situation, and doing more exploring online, and looking at the catalog some more -- I realized that I have NEVER seen an Outdoorsman with full body color paint. I have seen the black bottoms, and I have seen chrome bumpers, but I have never seen what we (ALL, including the salesman) *thought* "monotone" meant.

I realized that the "Monotone Outdoorsman" says: body-color fender flares, bright front bumper, bright rear bumper.

Our sales guy was trying to order a Metallic Steel "monotone outdoorsman" ... thinking that it was going to come in full body color like you can get on the Express or the Sport.

Holy crap!

When I talked to him about it Wednesday afternoon, he was adamant that I was wrong.

When my husband talked to him about it again today (Thursday afternoon), he is still convinced that WE don't know what we are talking about. "Well, it's different when you go into the system to actually order it....."

Ummmm, NO. No, it isn't!

I have done some more searching, and found some other threads tonight that support what I discovered *completely on my own*. If that order would have gone through on Monday ... We'd have waited 6-12 weeks for this truck, and it would have shown up with shiny chrome bumpers!

---------

I am not sure what we are going to do now.

I have one sales guy telling me that you cannot order a bench right now at all. That dealership has a nice 2014 still in stock (with the bench), and no chrome.

I have another sales guy telling me that he can get a bench, no problem, but just not with the Ram Box (which makes no damn sense). (This is the same sales guy who is still convinced that monotone outdoorsman means ALL one color).

I'm about to post a "wanted" ad here, to pay one of you knowledgable dudes to just come here and take care of this for me.

Sales people, you gotta love them:roflsquared: For every 10 you encounter about 1 knows their **** about the products THEY are selling....
I always do my research and usually, what I am buying is something I am really interested in, so.... yea, usually know more than the sales people in what is offered.
The problem is alot of these sales people go from dealership to dealership over the years, they just sell the vehicles as products.

Can you imagine if this truck had come in and been the COMPLETE opposite of what my husband wanted? Sales guy *knows* that no chrome is wanted. Black wheels, black step bars ...

What we were picturing (Maximum Steel) is not even an OPTION without chrome.

The part that kills me is that we still haven't convinced him that he is wrong! A quick internet search (or, God forbid, two) can clear that confusion right up.

Shaking my head.

Are you ordering a standard box or short box?

6'4" box.

I asked the first sales guy if we could get shorter bed / Ram Box / front bench. He said it won't let him do that, either.

They really dont know much.

When I test drove my current truck, I asked the sales guy a question and I remember him saying, "I'm new here, just came over from GM". Didn't help me with anything except "This thing's got a hemi bro you should buy it".

Ask em to use their computer to do the button punching yourself. :D

Sadly, I would feel MUCH more confident with this option.

The whole process of ordering causes some anxiety... We don't know when it will be here, we don't know what the rebates will be, we don't know what *could* happen with our trades between now and then (they are guaranteeing amounts, but still), and we don't know what our interest rate is going to look like.

That is a LOT of stuff to be unsure about -- yet pull the trigger anyway.

So, the one thing we should be able to be sure about: That the truck is going to be exactly what we wanted. That is the entire point of dealing with the aforementioned anxiety, and the wait.

one thing i found was that the dealers options and the options the build tool has on their website is completely different so if you use the build tool it really only gives you a very rough idea

i have the white with black on my truck so the flares and bumpers are black and the only chrome i have is the emblems and door handles. if you ever go on any gravel roads i highly suggest you get some good big mudflaps or your flares will take a beating from stones. the flares are just plastic so when stones hit you'll get white spots(like the type you get when you bend plastic) and they start looking ugly pretty quick

Same thing here. My salesman let me look at the computer when he built my truck and there are things that can and cannot be done on their system compared to the build your own website. I think the lack of knowledge is an intentional sales tactic. If the answer is not what you want to hear, it may ruin the sale. They want you to convince yourself the answer you want to hear is the right answer.

There are a lot of people on here that would be willing to swap their jumper seat for a full console. It's a easy swap to do. So you do have options.

When I went to the dealer on my truck I was told I couldn't get the Ram box bed on a Q.C. , I bought a QC off the lot with everything I wanted with the exception of RAMBO and 396 GR. I think I just seen a QC with the Rambox yesterday ? Am I seeing things or not ??

I'm not sure. If you try to build one on their site, does it give you the Ram Box option?

So... UPDATE:

My husband woke up today with his mind made up. He went down to the local dealership and placed a new order -- this time without the Ram Box (because 3 different dealerships have now told us that this can't be done).

We also changed the color to Granite, with the black around the bottom.

Our salesman FINALLY looked into it a little more -- and FINALLY admitted to my husband that we were right about the "monotone" Outdoorsman having chrome bumpers.

I had absolutely no desire to go with him to the dealership today. I wrote everything out meticulously on a sheet of notebook paper, signed it, and sent him on his way. He WATCHED them place the order, screen by screen, and it went through just fine this time. Done.

Now, we wait. The guy who put in the order said that it may be in as soon as 4 weeks. Our salesman had told us 6-12.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

He did have them add in the Ram mud flaps he wanted. I appreciate the info!

probably depends where it's built and how busy they are. i'd imagine it'd get shipped out from Michigan a lot faster then Mexico

remember to post some pics when you get it :)

Congrats! If you're looking for some pics of what you ordered, take a look at my build thread below. The Granite/Black two tone looks great.

You are correct on the monotone Outdoorsman. The flares and rockers are body color but the bumpers are chrome. This is actually the model that I ordered with the intention of painting the bumpers at some point, but the dealer mis-ordered the truck and had to order another. The two tone model came in first and I really liked it, so I took that one. Looked at the monotone model a few weeks later and it's a good looking truck too, but really needs color matched bumpers.
