I am thinking of smoking all the chrome (trim ring included) and then painting the housing black Opinions / ideas?
Well F*ckAll, that "Chrome" tint didn't take to the chrome at all. Beaded up. In trying to clean it off, I managed to clean off most of the chrome. *RANT*

I did not envision this part causing me grief. Oh well.

The whole outer housing is now flat black. I might paint the turn signal relief and the factory reflector silver. We'll see.

I'm annoyed to say the least right now. I've spray bombed hundreds of things... never had this issue. Grrrrr

Flat black with some silver accents. I think this evening I'm going to try and round up some electric heaters so I can paint in the garage instead of the basement. My family complained about some 'paint fumes' whatever THOSE are...:roflsquared:

Pics looked good, sucks about having trouble with the chrome stuff, but that flat black with silver accents will look good.

I wish the 2G lights were unfluted lenses.. FML. :)

I'm going to be getting a set of 99+ Sport Headlights for my old Man's 98 Ram and put projectors in them too. He wants to see the 'difference' on mine first.

Here's a little trick the internet taught me... How do you dechrome plastic?

Soak it in bleach. From A to B in about 3 minutes in bleach.

That being done, I have the bezels and the shrouds painted a matte dark grey textured metallic. I love it! It's exactly what I wanted (other than the issue with smoked chrome)

I'm really excited to get these all buttoned back up, but instead I'm going to be super patient, and let them fully outgas and cure before I seal em up.
I just don't want something stupid to go wrong. And besides, I'm not going to be installing them in the weather we've had recently anywho!

we used to use bleach to strip the chrome off of model parts, when I was a kid. Brake fluid strips paint off of plastic, too.. Although, usually not as quickly as the bleach vs chrome..

I still want a somewhat 'stock' appearance to the lights. I think this give it the 'dark special edition' kind of look. Originally the reflector (for the turn signal too) was going to be smoked chrome... but that didn't work out. *sigh*
