Hey folks. I’ve had three leaks in my truck now through the 3rd brake light. It soaks the headliner and especially in the corners! The dealer has fixed these issues and continue to fix them under warranty. This time the guys said they cleaned the headliner, however, it looks worse than when I dropped the truck off lol.

How hard are these things to replace? To me it doesn’t make sense that something that big fits through the doors. I’m sure there is a trick to it but I’ve never even considered messing around with a headliner ha ha ha.

Anyhow, do they make black ones for our trucks? The rental caravan had all black headliner and pillars etc... I kinda liked it.

Thanks folks!

Forum vendor AllmoparParts (Benny) can get you pricing/PNs for the black interior parts (he has for others), if no one replies that's done it.

Pretty sure they take them through the windshield and that's probably why the dealership is trying to clean vs replace.

If it's damaged due to a water leak that's covered under warranty shouldn't they cover replacing the headliner if it isn't in acceptable condition?

Yeah i think they wedge them through the windshield opening. I know they did when gas monkey garage built that copo camaro at the gm factory. They had to bend it all up to squeeze it in

Can be done by removing the front seats, and center console as well as flip the rear lower seat up. Better if you remove that too. Drop the liner down, cant the rear of the liner toward the R/R door and angle the right side back up as you pull it out. Careful as you do need to bend some to get it out. Too much and you'll crease it and the crease don't come out. Ask me how I know.

I know. But while under warranty I wanted the dealer to fix it. Any costs associated with it will be on them. Any electrical damage is on them. Mould issues etc... I wanted a paper-trail in case things go south. Even out of warranty I may be able to prove reoccurring issues. I’m sick of it to be honest and I may push for a new headliner if it happens again

I understand....maybe this time, have them clean the headliner/carpet etc., then after you get your truck back all clean then you can put the other gasket on yourself and call it done

When I detail my interior I take the front seats and carpet out. With that stuff out of the way the headliner is easy to drop, but removing it is tricky without damage. When I sound deadened the roof it stayed in the truck and just lay on the floor. The official way to do it is to remove the windshield and slide it out the front. If you happen to have a cracked windshield then that's when you do the headliner if possible. I'd have the glass shop remove it and drive home with a motorcycle helmet with face shield and have them install the new one once you're done if you have a garage.

You gotta post a video if you go that route!

Hmmm... I wonder why these things leak. They are designed to gulp the water! Why can’t they just put a thin LED light mounted inside rear glass?

Just had a quote to replace the headliner. Just the headliner itself was $1,020. They had a full day of work as well @ $65 an hour lol.

The windshield method was the route they were going to go.
