Hello, I am looking to put either HIDs or LEDs in my 2015 Ram 1500 Laramine Limited with factory projector headlights. Can anyone recommend a good kit please? Thanks.

When I had my 17 Sport w/ projectors I went with Headlight Revolution GTR 55W HIDs at 6000k color. They were awesome and so was HR customer service. About $320 for everything. Pure white light with a touch of blue. Highly recommend these guys. Easy install, plug and play, no bulky harnesses/ground wires/battery terminals, etc. They come with slim “smart ballasts” that combine all that stuff, you just stick them on the truck frame behind/under the headlight housing.

My new 19 Bighorn has the factory LEDs w/ reflectors and they actually light up just as well, almost better.

Ok thanks. Would you recommend HID or LED then?

I think HID still rules as king of lighting but aftermarket LEDs are quickly catching up. Factory LEDs are just as good IMHO.

Advantages of LEDs are that you get immediate full lighting whereas the HIDs take 8-10 seconds to warm up to full capacity. LEDs are probably a bit cheaper. Disadvantages are that they’re not quite as bright (although getting closer) and you have to “clock” them to get the proper beam pattern (essentially twist them to a certain position inside the projector housing.)

good luck! Either choice you make, you’ll get a huge improvement over factory halogens.

Thanks Condor. Do you have pictures of your LEDS? I’m thinking that’s the route I’ll end up going. I just get worried when I keep reading about the heat from them.

It's been said countless times that If you have factory projectors it is better to go with HID. It has to do with the way the light is put out. If you have factory reflectors, led is the way to go. I guess it all boils down to personal preference. There is a ton of posts on the subject, do a quick search. Good luck with whatever route you decide to go.

LED's might be catching up to the hids. I've run both a decent set of hids and now a decent set of leds in projectors, and the hids are minimally better in my experience. I switched over hoping the performance would be close, which it is, and hoping for better long term reliability. So I'm happy with the performance part, and if they are trouble free for me for the next 2-3 years, I'll be very happy with them.

Also, have been high beamed once in about 2 weeks with them in, so no issues there. About the same rate I got it with my hid's. They were aimed correctly in each case but you just get high beamed sometimes I guess.

I find that a lot of drivers who high beam others is because they’re tired.

I agree, people get a little tired and grumpy, or they just don't like the headlights being higher in general. Either way, it happens infrequently enough (even with my halogens I got it here and there) that I feel comfortable that I'm not blinding oncoming traffic. Have also had a friend of mine do a couple tests where we drive at each other (he has a car) and he gave me the approval of not being blinded.

I’ve got new HIDs in 2019 style polished black Alpharex headlights. I went with 35w 5000k HIDs from Innovited (found on amazon for $40) and they’re 300% better than stock bulbs in the stock projectors on my 2013 1500 Sport.

My factory reflector LEDs on the 2019 are awesome, I’d say even better than the setup you see in these pics and the HID pics (those were on my 17 Sport projectors.)

Also agree that HIDs are the way to go in projectors.

I have 5K LED’s in my low beams and 6K in my high. 5K is pure white (best IMO) and 6K has a slight tint of blue. Mine are quad style / open reflector headlights so I had to use the ‘regular’ bulb in lows but have the ‘extreme’ in my high’s (see pic’s below). The low beam fit behind the OEM dust cover no problem, but I had to order 85mm covers from Amazon for the high beam LED bulb.

With your truck, the projector style you can use micro extreme and the results will be similar to a 35W HID. Click the link and you can read up on the details yourself. 30 day money back guarantee if you do not like them + free return shipping. *Confirm for correct bulb*

https://www.vleds.com/shop-application/application-low-beam/9012-hir2.html

1st pick is micro evolution 5K LED and 2nd micro extreme 6K (ideal for projector or high beam reflector only).

I'm running DDM Plus HID in my projectors and some Amazon LED's in my high beams. Theres no lag with high beams if I need to flash my brights. I used AlfaOBD to make the PWM go away on my 2017 2500 CTD. The HID kit I used was https://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDMPlusCanbusHIDKit
The price is significantly less than others and I already had AlfaOBD. Works perfectly. Not one issue in over a year

I have 2016 Laramie with factory projectors. After many emails with Headlight Revolution, which customer service is awesome, andafter lots of research, I went with Headlight Revolution and purchased the GTR 35w ballast hid's in 4300k. I have had them in for about a month now, and the difference is amazing. I wanted as much light as I could get, and am pleased with the output of these, and I did not want blue tint. My oem fogs and high beams look yellow compared to my new hid's. LOL

It’s pretty easy to spot. Projectors are tiny little round bulbs and lenses that almost look like a mini spotlight and precisely focus the light beam. Reflectors are just a big lens/housing with shiny mirrors where the light bounces off from.

Anyways, all late model (past 2011 I believe) Sport Rams have the projectors so I’m almost 100% sure you have the projectors.

Here is a pic of a projector on my last Ram, a 2017 Sport
