The HD's are even worse cause you have to get the connector off of the bracket and then try to get behind it. Lol

Lol I can imagine. On our trucks trying to slide the pins into the backside of that plug is a total bear. There is just no room to work with. It was definitely one of the harder parts when I did mine too......and on HD trucks like yours it looks like it's even more difficult to put the pins in........But in the end it's worth it!

Well I got the seats in earlier today but did not get to the clock spring yet. All went well and as expected, well sort of.
No wires to run, just installed them.
All power functions worked.
Heated elements in both seats worked.
No cooling either seat yet.
And of course no heated steering wheel yet.

But I have the air bag message and light on. These seats are definitely 13 and up seller claimed they were from a 14. I am hoping it is jus a DTC I can clear, but I do not see any SRS labels on the seats. Anyone else have an issue and where is the SRS label on Laramie seats.

The SRS label is on the seam between the side panel and the outboard bolster. If they have the "Laramie" logo embossed instead of the Ram's head, then they're 13+.

Did you buy them from Seats & Such by chance? He sometimes sells 5500 seats without airbags. I have a feeling that's what you have.

You can check for the airbag wiring in the plug under the seat. You can also unzip the seat at the back edge and visually check inside for the airbag. It's a large black plastic assembly inside of a nylon pouch.

Yes I bought them from Casey "seats ans such" but he adverstised them as a 1500 or 2500, can't remember exactly. So the SRS tag should be in the same place as my original seats. So i'm screwed here?

The airbag wires should be pins 3 and 4 of the yellow connector on the drivers side.

My 14 Laramie set has them in approximately the same place as my 13 Express cloth and my 15 Big Horn cloth. So, I'd expect all of the 4th gen seats do. I think the tag needs to be located close to the airbag and it's located in that bolster. If you can't find a tag, they're probably non-airbag, unfortunately.

You might be able to disable the side airbags (I know the option is in the BCM) but I'm not sure what legal implications this would have in a crash. There's also the obvious concern of losing what could be a beneficial safety feature.

Interesting day. I verified the heated clock spring I installed was set at 2.5 turns = center. Still had the dash squiggly light :-( so I removed the heated clock spring, reinstalled the stock clock spring and low and behold even after clearing the codes I still had the squiggly light. ****. I verified my horn circuit in the steering wheel was good and then put everything back together, still had the squiggly light. Figured I'd have to hit the dealer to clear the code. Took the truck for a drive and in about a half mile the squiggly light went away ;-) After that I troubleshot the horn circuit and found the horn itself had died :) Maybe next weekend I'll put the heated clock spring back in and see if the error clears in a half mile of driving. I've had an air horn new in the box for years so I guess it's finally time to install it ;-) Still can't wait to get the 8.4RA4 and heated/cooled seats working like factory... all thanks to you guys :favorites13:

Thanks guys.
First I disconnected each battery at the negative lead. My new/used clock spring was not pinned when I received it. I was very careful to check revolutions and set it to center. I had the truck front axle set on jacks so I could move the steering wheel as needed to get the air bag in position to remove the 3 clips, then I set the wheels to straight, set the truck back on the ground to keep the wheels from turning. Then I removed the steering wheel and verified the stock clock spring centering by moving just the clock spring CCW/CW, put it back to center and pinned it. Then I did the same to the heated clock spring and then installed it. (I replaced the clock spring as an assembly and didn't take it apart, not like the youtube video) Unfortunately I don't have the backup camera installed yet so I can't verify with the camera lines the angle setting.
Today I'll take off the steering wheel, verify the heated clock spring centering and try again, if that fails I'll reinstall the factory clock spring and go from there.

Regarding the compass on the EVIC which corner does it normally show up in? My temperature is only in the top right. When I put in the dash the outside temp was in the top right corner, after setting the left two gauges I then scrolled through and set the other 3 corner settings. The last one I scrolled through was the top right setting of the outside temp, quite strange as Temperature was not one of the choices and I was so bummed I thought I had it and lost it. Not sure how but exiting that setting the temp returned on the display. (not gonna mess with that one again)

If you put in seats without air bags you can put in a 2.2ohm resistor to simulate the air bag assembly. I did it on my 2008 JKU Wrangler. I thought your seats had the air bags deployed? In which case the resistance of the air bag assembly will be higher and that could be your issue.

Those are my seats. I'm not installing them until I replace the airbags.

As RT stated you can possibly disable the airbag with the AE tool. You can also de pin your original seat harness and install the airbag wires and mount the airbags from your old seats to your new seats.

If I could swap out that would be cool, but will the seats accept the airbags, and are the covers sewn with the proper stitching for airbags? Plus it sounds like a lot of work

That's going to be your problem. The seats probably don't have the cutout in the foam for the airbags. Even if they do, I wouldn't expect the non-SRS cover to have the "intensifier" pouch and the weakened stitching.

It is not hard to install the airbags from your old seats to your new seats. I have done this. You may not have the tab that says SRS but the airbags can be installed. Your seats will not have the nylon(intensifier sleeve) as shown in this picture that has the air bag style seat covers
but you can still install them and have no codes.

While it would solve the issue of the codes being set, I wouldn't want to be sitting next to an airbag that's missing the system that directs the deployment energy in a safe direction. There's really no telling what's going to happen if that bag deploys inside a seat not designed for it. I think disabling them entirely would be safer than that.

Didn't think about that.... good point. Unless you are going to install new seat covers that had the correct sleeve for the airbag intensifier RT is right I would probably try to disable it.

That nylon bag doesn't direct anything it holds the module in seat cavity!
This came straight from my leather shop that's done 100s of katskinz but the zipper is designed to blow out on deploy its thread is different
