I just picked up a used 2016 Ram 1500 and noticed that the touch screen in the truck's dash has some sort of residue stuck to it, presumably from the protective film that was on it when brand new and wasn't removed for a good while. I'm kind of able to scratch it off but don't want to harm the screen if I can help it, so looking to see if someone else on here has had a similar issue and would know the best course of action to take in order to get this cleaned off? Thanks in advance!IMG_20190206_174026.jpg

As you say, it maybe the factory stick-um from the protective layer, or maybe not. Perhaps somewhat related is the use of a protective amour glass screen as you might put on your cell phone screen. I've installed one to my 2018 RAM shown here:

https://www.ramforum.com/threads/uconnect-touch-screen-screen-protector.134085/

The makers of the screen note: "Do not use anything other then mild soapy water to remove the protective glass screen should you wish to. Chemicals are not required." , or words to this effect. The screen install in the link does have/use an adhesive coating to help the install. No telling what it is of course. But based on the installer info I'd suggest you try a simple soap and water solution used extremely sparingly to try and remove that stuff from your screen. The rather delicate make up of the screen is what made me go looking for a protective glass for it. The glass is a bit easier to keep clean too I think.

HTH,

T.

Thanks for that! I'll give it a shot. Hopefully with a little patience that will do the trick. And then after it's clean, I may just have to look in to picking up one of those screen protectors! I'll update after giving a bit of soap and water a try.

I put on a Mopar screen protector...glossy finish, crisper display too. I like it!
Mopar Part #: 82215337 for jeeps, but works perfect on our 8.4 radio screens!

Awesome! How much did that run you? Any photos of it installed on your screen?

I would use eyeglasses cleaner and a microcloth used to clean eyeglasses. When done using it, I'd wash the microcloth in a washing machine and see if it's still usable. If not, I'd throw it away.

I will try to remember to post up a picture later this afternoon. Ummm… I don't remember but I know it was under $20 bucks.

Thanks Big *****: I ordered a screen from Amazon.

After install: I will use the small damp cloths we use to clean our safety glasses.

Went ahead and tried a slightly damp cloth with a super small amount of dish soap, and it did the trick!
