Pretty much as the title says. I have a nice amp and sub. But I want better sound but don't have the money for a new head unit. Is there anyway to run a amp and sub off a stock head unit??

I can't remember the part number for what you're looking for but Google Pac interface and go on their website and you'll find it. It plugs in line with the factory radio wiring and has to rca outlets f/r. I ran one for a while. I still might have mine. If you come up with a part number let me know and I'll see if mine is the same.

I used an Audiocontrol LC2i to get the signal for my system with the stock HU. Works awesome and is better quality than a $15 LOC. It sends a boosted signal to the Amp where most power is usually lost when using a cheaper LOC. This means a cleaner, stronger signal and no static noises. They run about $100 though. But the cheap ones get the job done if that's all you need.

I remember some years back I did this and used something called a Line Output Converter. It takes a front speaker lead and a rear lead and converts it to RCA outputs. It worked great.

It was similar to this.
Xscorpion LC014 4R 4 Chan Hi Low Converter w Auto Remote Amp Turn on LCO14 4R | eBay

Fixed it for ya! :waytogo: Right product in the link.

To the OP - What amp do you have? Many of the new amps have speaker level inputs and crossovers built in that are quite good (or at least better than years past) and often good enough for running a sub.

I was always told that the stock head unit should be replaced first and that makes the biggest difference.

I would disagree. The radio is the control center of the operation. Changing this will give you the most noticeable difference when it comes to operating the system. Changing the speakers and adding an amp (plus sub in my opinion) will give you the biggest difference as far as sound is concerned. One of the best sound upgrades I could recommend for most vehicles would be to upgrade your existing speakers, add a 5 channel amp, and a sub. Changing the radio would be optional.
