Every single time I see this thread title, all I can think of is the words, "I do."

Wonder if that is what they mean by a Freudian Slip.

My transmission isn’t the ZF 8HP70, it’s the older 65RFE paired to the 4.7L.

That fluid is very unlikely to cause the problem such as you state the problem. Perhaps you should have someone run diagnostics on the vehicle and make sure you even have a transmission problem. After being an auto trans specialist for GM and Ford for 27 years, I can say that driveability issues need to be eliminated first.

One good example: I was working at a Blue Oval Ford dealer back in 2001. A customer brought his F-150 in and stated the transmission was "slipping badly" and was groomed to spend upwards or 5 grand on a new trans. Doing my diligence, I performed electronic engine controls tests first.... his problem was a clogged fuel filter.... 59 dollars fixed it!

Yeah, it wasn’t the transmission as much as it was the engine itself. I’m going on 100K on the stock copper plugs, and now the iridium ones are also starting to kick the bucket, and as @Hemi395 explained earlier in this thread, it’s more of the TCM not knowing what to do with the shift points when the engine isn’t responding how it should, therefor making it shift horrible, or missing shifts completely.

This truck 100% needs a tune up and that’s what i’m equating 100% of the issues to. For instance, when it’s cold outside and the air is more dense, the truck runs and shifts BEAUTIFULLY. There’s hiccups here and there bc the plugs are so foul but it runs nice, and shifts nice.

A fluid change did completely eradicate my Torque Converter shudder though. (knock on wood).

Why not get the system back flushed and replace with the correct fluid ?

Because i don’t trust anyone but myself with that truck, she saved my life back in April, and if she got damaged at a shop bc i felt like being lazy i’d give up.

If you’re talking about the swap then tuning the TCM to what the engine is rated for, as for the 4.7 it’s 310 HP and 330 LB-FT/TQ

Sounds like the 4.7 is rated close to my 2019 Ram V6. It’s 305 hp with a Zf 8 speed. Great combo. Maybe replace the 4.7 with the whole package like mine. Lighter weight engine made out of aluminum too!

Yeah, i don’t like how the 4.7L has the EGR at the total back of the engine and it’s a total ***** to work on, but atleast i don’t have to take off the cab to replace it

You just have to press your face into cowling and do it all by feel. Been there....

Iridium plugs don't "kick the bucket". A properly maintained car with no engine issues can realistically be expected to go a quarter million miles on a set.

Okay, but still, they’re meant to be replaced on the 4.7L engine every 100K, and they’re coming up to that 100K mark. The copper plugs are meant to be replaced every 30K miles, but have gone to 100K.

I would never in my life push 250K on a set of Iridium spark plugs.
