Backing out of my driveway this morning. My whole truck was covered in a layer of ice, couldn't see anything. Anddddd some dumba** decided to park right behind my driveway. You can guess what happened. My truck came out just a little scuffed on the bumper, but the other car:

Ouch. Hopefully everything will go as smoothly as possible and the other guy won't be an ass.

Been there....done that.... lol

I had a girl park her car right in my blind spot in my old truck while she was dropping someone off. As I went to back out of a parking lot onto the road, I wasn't able to see the car blocking the entrance to the lot since I sat a lot higher than she did. Hence this happened :doh2:

The only damage I got was the black plastic popping up on the end...and a nice new insurance premium lol

Consider it a lesson learned. Not trying to preach but at work we are required to walk around our vehicle before we go anywhere. First to check for damage that someone else may have caused, to check for leaks, and to be sure it's clear to back up. I find myself doing this at home too, especially in parking lots, before I leave.

If it makes you feel any better.. A couple weeks ago.. I drove straight out of a parking spot instead of backing out.

I felt a bump after I hit the gas.. Then I hit the brakes.. And there rolls a metal trashcan about 25 feet.

Thank God I have the chrome bumper.. Not a scratch.

Sorry that happened man... That's why I always do a pre-trip inspection before I go anywhere. I guess that's the CDL side of me.

i try to back in everywhere I park. even my own driveway. i can see whats in the spot as i approach and then when i leave i can see what's in front of me.

This is my approach, but its the Fireman Engineer in me to never put my rig (truck too) in a position that takes a lot of time to get mobile.

But did the person park right in front blocking your driveway? That sucks but its also why we have insurance. Dumb things happen sometimes.

^^^This

I too try to back in everywhere I park, driveway included. As BigDaddyRam said, I like to see what's in front of me when leaving. Touching on what R/T_Fire said, I think this is also firefighter in me that causes me to do this.

My crazy ass backed into one of those short bright yellow poles you see at gas stations in front of the doors. I was trying not to have my nose out so far so I was going to back till the tires touched the curb, I came to a quick stop and I was like WTF got out and the bumper had a perfect crease about 3 inches left of the exhausts tip. These bumpers are very thin I took the bumper off and got a 2x4 block and beat the crease out .

You guys are missing the big thing here. Truck was covered in ICE. I spent a few years in Alaska and you lean quickly that you never leave with ice on the windows or snow on the car. Always take care of that.

The people who drive down the road with a snow still on the vehicle thinking "the wind will take it off"....I hate these people. Yeah, the wind will take it off, right into the windshield of someone else. ASS.

Clarification, I am just ranting. Not directing any of this at the OP.

Yeah dude that was your fault. You should have thawed your truck out. Who takes off driving down the road when they can't see out the windows. That's not exactly safe. If I was the dude that you hit I would be highly pissed off about this.

Lol.. As a prior tanker, and driving a 68ton abrams with only periscopes... All I need in my windshield is a little square to see out of.

But I do agree with statcher1, and I also wouldn't park behind someones driveway either lol.

x2. my thoughts exactly when i read this. Who backs out of a driveway, or even moves their car without being able to see out the window? be thankful all you hit was a car.

Nothing like a few years in the oil field and a few more in fire/EMS to drill into a person to back in, walk-around and clear the windows.

Good thing somebody didn't walk behind you at that moment. All I can say is that the only one at fault is you for not clearing the ice.

Back in 2010 my 1988 5.0 Mustang (that I bought new in 88) was rear ended in front of my home on the residential street (25 mph speed limit) by a driver that didn't clear his windshield of ice before driving. Totaled my poor vehicle. So I hope you take your error as a lesson learned.

been there, done that. In my case, I lived on a kinda major through route, parking on the street is legal, but nobody who lives in the neighborhood. is stupid enough to actually do it, because it's too narrow for parking and driving. well, I came out, thinking about something else, jumped in my Power Wagon, looked for traffic and backed into little car just like you. I left a note on his car, he called and I settled up for a couple hundred. It was stupid on my part, and I got off kinda easy.
