Hey Gang:
I have a 2018 rcsb 4X4,hemi and 6Speed with 3.52 diff gearing. My problem is when stuck in rush hour traffic,my truck just wants to go even at idle. I have to keep my foot on the brakes at all times. I've even tried to leave a BIG gap between me and the vehicle in front of me. As soon as I let off the brakes, away she goes again.

My question is,what is idle RPM supposed to be? In gear i'm at around 800. Is that a bit high? Can it be lowered?

Thanks,Mickey

Are you sure about the 6spd auto? I was under the impression that all 1500 model trucks in 2018 had 8spd automatics and either 3.21 or 3.92 gears. My RAM (2017 with 5.7 hemi/8spd/3.92s) idles at around 500 in gear so I would think yours should be about the same. Maybe disconnect the battery for a minute and give it a chance to relearn and there's always the dealer if you're still under warranty.

My 2013 with the 4.7 idles (in drive) at 500-600 RPMs with the 6 Speed 65RFE. It only idles at 800 RPM early in the morning when the engine is cold.

I saw somewhere on here a Canadian member mentioned that their country seems to be a dumping ground for old FCA transmissions and apparently a lot of the rams up there still have the 6 speeds in them.

800 sounds a lil high, but not an inane amount high. MY 19 idles 600-800, but unless I put my Blue Drive reader on it, not gonna know actual number. The idle number factor would be heat vs cold and whether or not AC on.....

On a 2011 though, right? My 2011 had a 5 speed as well, but here in the states finding a 6 speed after 2013 is fairly rare, especially in more recent years from what I have seen. Seemed like a good 90-95% were 8 speed the last time I was looking/shopping for my 2017.

Clean the throttle body especially where the butterfly forms a dirty ring around it on the inner sidewall of the throttlebody.I use a toothbrush with cleaner on it and wipe it out with a rag

Us Canucks are lucky,we're FCA's dumping ground for the older RFE trannies, lol. I'm guessing he's got a lower trim level truck,as it's only the Expresses and lower that get the 6 speed,Sports and higher trim level trucks get the 8 speed

did the OP ever figure out what the idle problem was. Im experiencing something similar. Ive even removed the intake manifold and changed the o rings. Used several cans of brake clean and carb clean to try and pinpoint the vacuum leak (if there is one). still unsuccessful. One day while in park i slowly raised the RPM up to about 2k. Lifted off the accelerator and the rpms kept creeping up all the way to 4k before i shut it down. sorry to hijack your thread, but i hope you found a solution.
