Another question on the subject. I am currently looking at an RA4 out of a '16 that has the 15.x firmware on it. If I were to install this in my '14, do you think it would work well enough to run the upgrade to the 17.x firmware? I've not really seen what the "not working in a 14 or 15" actually entails.

It doesn't seem to happen to everybody. My 16 radio worked great in my 14 for about the 1st year and then it started going blank screen on me to where I couldn't control anything. As soon as I flashed the new firmware it fixed itself. As far as the firmware goes it's usually not good move them up too much at 1 time but I think MPgrimm2 has some links to some older firmware that could get you up to speed.

I haven't heard of anyone but I'm pretty sure if you have a 13 to 15 radio it's automatically going to put the cargo cam to the screen and the backup camera to rear view mirror because that's the way they were originally configured in those years.

Odd though because I am pretty sure the cargo cam wasnt an option until 2016+. But I suppose either way that would make sense if the trucks never had them before 16 so why would they bother giving you the button. Either way I just paid 300 for a cargo cam and the hard work and sweat of @DeereGuy to make me a harness currently, I wont have the juevos to update the software and jeopardize losing the option unless someone else reports back.

Just as a note I swear the uconnect site is run by freakin monkeys plugging in connections. Two weeks ago I checked and 17.43.03 was available to me, but I opted not to download it since I was planning this whole cargo cam thing. Now I was deciding maybe I should just download it and keep it on my hard drive with all the other updates in a folder "do not use will screw up cargo cam" until anyone finds out any different. I just logged in, ran my vin and it says "Up to date". Un freaking believable

The cargo cam was an option from 2013 and up but when you had the cargo cam option your backup camera was in the rearview mirror. The 2016 and up trucks had the backup camera button so you could turn on your backup camera whenever you want plus the trucks equipped with the cargo cam had the option to show the cargo cam or the backup cam on the screen by using the soft key on the screen.

I was looking at the first posts and it looks like the part numbers for all the years after 2013 start with the same 3 digits (682). Did you mean to say "the last three digits" instead, or am I misreading something?

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this. I've read somewhere that a Chrysler 200 8.4 can be used in a Ram with either the bracket from the 200 or modding the lower screw hole locations on the 200 radio. Has anyone done this? The used 200 RA4 is significantly cheaper in this area. Looking at units online it almost looks like there are two different mounts used in the 200, but hard to tell in the pictures. Thanks!

I wouldn't even risk it unless it was free or close to it. No guarantee it would even work unless maybe it's a 2018 radio. Seems the Cherokee, viper & ram radios were the same from 13-17. Other brands would be your guess, then there's an issue of whether or not the FW is compatible & updates.

Agree with Mpgrimm2 100%. Unless it's free or ridiculously cheap I wouldn't risk it. I have seen people try to use them with less than promising results

As stated settings and then themes. If you have a 13 or 14 radio it will not have the options of different themes unless it has the newer firmware installed.

If you have not updated the firmware in your 2015 radio you are correct it currently has 5 themes if you update your firmware to the new 17 series you would have 7 themes you would gain a new blue screen which I love plus the red rebel screen

Thank god I found this thread! I almost gave up hope. Maybe Mpgrimm2 has an answer for me. I just purchased a used 2014 Ram 1500 limited pickup last week. Being in the IT field the first thing I checked was the version of software I had. The truck currently has version 13.51.11 I see the newest version out is 17. I went to the u connect website and put my vin # in and it's saying that my software is up to date. I spoke to a jeepcares person on a different fourm and this is what they told me.

"Software updates are not universal, and therefore not all 2014s will have the same software level. It can vary depending on your specific vehicle. As previously stated, your Ram is currently up to date".

Here's the info on the truck

43,000 miles on the truck

2014 with a build date of 3/14

8.4 screen with navigation

current firmware version 13.51.11

Truck was built in the US and sold in Canada. Came back into the US and resold here. I attached pictures of the radio part # and software# I looked at page 1 of this thread and it looks like the part number of the radio doesn't match any listed. Am I out of luck? Do you have a version that will work with my radio? Please help!!
