I’ve just now been looking at some more normal I guess aftermarket choices. I’m not a fan of Kenwood but have always liked pioneer and jvc. I’m not sure what I’ll do. I don’t have any experience with the CarPlay thing, but I do use an iPhone and honestly rarely need the navigation but it’d be nice to have it.

Pioneers my go too I have several of their head units over the years and haven’t had a single issue out of them. CarPlay basically gives you, your iPhone on the screen of your radio for example maps, music, messages, phone calls can be made/listen to from the headunit itself. YouTube it for a better example. If you get a compatible headunit you can also grab Maestro datalink which will displays some of the vehicles gauges on your headunit.. very cool feature as well. The days of having to buy a navigation capable headunit to have Navi is over.. CarPlay or Android auto are the way to go since 99% of us would use our smartphone maps over a outdated navigation unit and cost way less.

That would be a car play on a headunit that’s what you see

Before we get too side tracked from The thread (installing the OEM hardware/camera)...
I agree about these Chinese Android units being crap, plus depending on the radio you are coming from (RA1,Ra2), you won't be able to control some factory settings that were through the OEM radio, but
If you must that Crux interface I mentioned should get you the signals/connections you need, bit you should download read the manual first to verify.

You really should look into the iDataLink 'Maestro' setup.

Sorry about the thread hijack. I’ve decided I don’t want to take a $500+ gamble so I’m going to look into more traditional double dins with the CarPlay. I know the 8.4 is popular but I just want something different. Thanks for the info and help in sorting things out for me.

The factory backup camera can be easily wired into RCA wiring if you so please to run on a aftermarket radio, but youre better off getting one of the interfaces.

Hello, fairly new Ram Big Horn owner here. I bought a 2015 used and it didn't have a backup camera. After some research I settled on installing Mopar factory cam.
Long story short I got the code flashed and completed install without hooking up the purple wire BCM #5 connector. Everything worked fine and install went so easily I decided to hook up the purple wire. Disconnected the #5, spliced the purple to the orange with dark blue and now I have a check engine light, airbag light on, my right rear tail light, backup lamp and reverse light doesn't work as well as my blower motor and heated seats and wheel.
I unhooked purple wire and checked the obvious fuses but not all yet. Problems with the BCM connector? some fuse I'm unaware of or did I fry something? I'd rather eliminate the easy things before heading to dealer. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Sounds like you got either the wrong connector at the BCM (ie not C5/E) or the wrong wire (ie not pin 45). Be aware that there may be more than one Org/DB wire in the same connector.

Disconnecting it is the correct first step, but you also need to maintain/repair the original connection if you haven't already.

Hopefully you took a look at some of the pictures etc linked in post 10 (good pictures in posts 19-45).

The connection is repaired but I still have an airbag light no blower motor and no right side tail light

Definitely was the correct connector marked E bottom left of BCM possibly wrong wire but the only orange with dark blue I saw

Found the problem, the C5 connector was not seating all the way. I was able to get it seated correctly after what seemed like 20 tries. I also hooked the purple wire back to the orange/dark blue and the lines are working. Everything is working again thankfully.

Take fuse 95 out to isolate and check for a short to ground on the side going to the camera. Recheck your wiring at every connector you touched. You may have something in the wrong pin/ backwards.

Thank you! I rrad one gentleman stated his 3 wires at C1 were 1 row above the row everyone lists, is it possibly different for express trucks with the 5.0?

Nope. He was likely talking about his cargo camera wiring. The 3 backup camera video wires at the radio C1 for 13-18 trucks has always been at pins 31, 32, 33 (people get this wrong too).
You could always post pictures of every connector you worked on showing exactly the wires you installed in relation to the others in the connector. One of us can look at it and tell if you got one wrong (if the pix quality is good).

Ok well its all up and running now, for future installs, I had the leftover wires (blue, yellow, green) that were supposed to pin into the supplied connector that i didnt get in my kit so I taped them together in the harness (doh). Turns out the red lead that you connect in the PDC to pink/yellow is spliced to the solid blue wire in the new harness, I was shorting it out and blowing fuse 95. Solved it, thanks for the help and this thread as it was a lifesaver!

Hello, so today I install my back up camera . I notice that my ram didn’t had the 31-33 wires on my hardness so I went ahead and put the ones that it came to the camera. Now I haven’t gone to the dealership to have it flash . When putting it on reverse do I suppose to get something on my screen? So far I put it on reverse and nothing pops up at all.

You will not get any change on the screen until the XAC sales code is flashed.

Mike / Mpgrimm2 aka M2MODS is 100% correct ( as ussual [emoji23])

You sir will get zero notification of a backup camera on your screen when in reverse ...untill you have the sales code XAC ,Flashed in by a Dealership or prior to installing the OBD From www.infotainment.com

Hope this helps !

Hey guys, first post on this forum, I'm looking for guidance. I have a 2013 1500 Express vin (1C6RR7KT8DS531803), RA1 Factory, with power locking tailgate. I bought a RA2 off ebay from a 2015 2500 Removed from VIN (3C6UR5DL0FG526861) I got the security pin from the dealer and hooked it up, everything good, about a month later i added steering wheel controls with the steering harness, hooked right up no problems. I then installed the Mopar factory Reverse camera kit 82214240AB. I installed the kit exactly how the instructions said. Ive read about 70 pages worth of this post and my brain is fried. I took the truck to the dealer and had them flash the XAC code. After 2 hours they came out and said something isnt working. The code is in the truck but the camera isnt working. When put in reverse NOTHING happens, no blue screen no "check surroundings", Nothing. Everything else works. From the reading ive done this means that the code insnt flashed correctly. So with me doubting the dealers ability to flash a code and paying them $125 I went to another dealer. Same story with a bit more detail, they told me yes the code was already there like the previous dealer said, they also attempted to flash it again, once again they said it wasnt working. I questioned the technician about if it could possibly be the Newer Radio. He said that he could not add the RA2 to their system because my truck was originally only RA1 and they cant add what wasnt listed to the VIN. I trippled checked all my wiring. I verified continuity from radio to rear camera and 12v to rear camera using a giant jumper. Also verified voltage at fuse 95. Gray blue wire 31, Gray orange 32, bare 33. Im at a loss and need some help please!!

**forgot to mention, my power locking tailgate is working correctly with the new body harness. Just nothing related to the reverse camera

How would it cost for the dealer just to do it? I've heard around $500.
