Just getting a final opinion after searching and not finding much

My ram: 1998 5.9mag, 2x4
Ram im looking at: 2001 5.9mag, 4x4 (bad tranny)

The tranny on my 2x4 only has like 30k on it, but the truck body is rusty, needs an exaust, suspension overhaul/new tires, and has 223k with the CEL on... So i'll be scrapping it.

Can I have the tranny swapped onto the 4x4? Does it matter if my current ram is a 98' or a 98 1/2'? Would I just be better off getting a new one? It will be hauling 2 z-turns in the summer, and plowing in the winter.

You would be better off trading your good 2wd tranny for a rebuilt 4wd tranny, or just rebuild the blown 4wd tranny.

Up here all it will cost you is a left nut and some change. A good used average milage Nv4500 starts at about $1200 and goes up from there, plus all the other needed new parts, about $2000. I look for cheap beat to heck 2nd gen 2500's every day as that seems to be the cheap way to go.

I have done automatic to manual conversions on multiple cars over the years and there has never been an easy one. Converting is a huge pain the the ass no matter how you look at it. This also goes for trying to modify the 2wd tranny to a 4wd tranny, tailshaft conversion is a huge pita. Sell the good 2wd tranny, buy a rebuilt 4wd tranny and save yourself a ton of aggravation.

Thanks for the name drop. I'm looking to get a clean 2500 cummins once i have the cash and i always hear chevy guys talk up allison transmissions. Figured dodge must have an aftermarket equivalent.

That's the route im going to go if i buy this. I might just wait till my 2wd dies and get a 2500.
