I have been looking into getting long tubes for my 2011 and its between ARH and JBA. I know the ARH comes with cats and the JBA has none but has cutouts for the O2 sensors. What is the point of the cut outs for the O2 sensors if there are no cats? Will my truck still pass inspection if I went with the JBA? ARH are just a little high $$$ wise so I would like to go with JBA but there is no point if I cant pass inspection.

The biggest difference between ARH and JBA is that ARH offers their headers in a 1 3/4" option where JBA only offers them in a 1 7/8". The larger 1 7/8" primary will make more top end power, but less tq down low. To offset the tq loss down low, you will want to step up to 4.10 gears and a higher stall tq converter as well. Without the gears and converter, the truck will likely feel slower around town with the JBA's.

With the ARH headers being available in a 1 3/4" primary, they will make more tq in the lower and mid rpms which will benefit your everyday driving. Gears and a higher stall converter will still benefit you with the 1 3/4" headers, but are not as necessary because you wont lose tq down low like you will with the JBA's.

As for inspections, you will need a custom tune regardless of which header you go with. A custom tuner can turn off the rear o2 sensor codes that you will get from either setup. I don't run cats on my trucks, and I still pass the inspection because of my Hemifever tune. If the shop wants to get picky, they can fail you for the visual inspection by not having cats, but most wont take the time to look if the computer reads clear.

What about for trucks with 4:10 ratio already? still go with the 1-3/4" for the mid and lower torq?

If you already have 4.10's, you can get away with the 1 7/8" primaries, but I would still recommend a higher stall converter to use them to their potential.

Both gears and converter will show more of a gain than longtubes, so I would actually add those before the headers.

I'm going to buy a lotto ticket the day that you agree with anything that I say.

Higher gear ratio is going to get you up into the higher rpms quicker which is where you will be making power with the larger size primary. No doubt the converter is going to be a huge factor, but I would not even consider a 1 7/8" primary header with 3.21's...even if I had a 3000+ stall converter. 1 7/8" headers with 4.10's/4.56's is more manageable. 1 7/8" headers with 4.10's/4.56's and a nice converter will be a tire shredding ET monster.

Converter is on the list of things I'm planning. Its one of my biggest complaints with response, I can feel it in that damn tranny.

Makes sense. I wasn't even really thinking about the size of the primaries. Are there any other long tubes to run other than JBA or ARH for 4x4 4th gen?
