Does anyone know of when the warranty will be extended. I have a 2016 sitting here because it wont start after replacing intake cam and rockers on passenger side. I can imagine the other bank has similar issues because of the major ticking before taking it apart. 64,000 miles is horrible life of an engine, and the previous owner failed to make Ram replace the engine under warranty. Where the 2 bad rockers cut into the lobe of camshaft.

Not really, but judging from those pictures i can easily tell that that engine wasn’t cared for AT ALL.

why would the warranty be extended? We need more information of what's going on here. Did you buy this used? Has oil changes been regularly done?

Did you do a compression check after the cam swap? Just trying to help troubleshoot the no start.

I'm wondering if the chain slipped during the swap, which will happen if you don't follow the procedures or use the specialized tools for the job. I don't know off the hand the procedures/tools. Have to look them up.

Rocker arm issues aren't uncommon, but pretty low numbers when you consider this engine is used in everything and the fix is fairly easy and cheap if you don't let it tick and hammer for long.

Judging by how bad that cam lobe is worn it must have been ticking for awhile before someone actually decided it was an issue.

There’s no plan to offer an extended warranty as far as I know for that issue. Rockers/cam issues are common but for as many 3.6 engines that are out there the failure rate is pretty low.

As for the issue of it not starting now. If it started fine before then there’s a good chance the timing is off after performing the repair.

I thought those 3.6's were good for 300,000 miles.

Yeah I have heard nothing but good things about the 3.6. I have one in our Durango & love it! 100k on it so far with zero issues! Of coarse it is a much lighter vehicle than a 1500. Probably just jinxed myself with the zero issues comment! :banghead:

Look at the burnt oil on a camshaft. That’s not a maintained engine. Probably went over 10K on oil changes. That looks HORRIBLE

it was a county vehicle in LA but I really have no idea about the oil changes. I purchased it and dealt with the tick for about 600 miles before I pulled it apart. Timing is per factory spec on bank 1 with the camshaft I put in, but I have not taken apart the other side to verify where those camshaft timing marks are. Ill run compression tests on all cylinders and then try to verify the ignition is working correctly. I am not isolating this engine, just experience from 150 engines I have had, this is low mileage for failure. There is another lawsuit to extend the warranty on these engines, but I really cant wait until next year. If it wont run again, I can swap out the engine, but I really dont want to go that route until I have the codes fixed. These are the permanent codes, after I cleared all the codes that existed. Currently low tire pressure is only thing on the dash. This was noisy but was getting 20mpg without those valves opening the correct amount. Two of these codes are timing issues from before I took it apart.

permanent codes that I cant clear out with my scanner. Bank 1 intake camshaft had 2 bad rockers, and cam eaten up by the rollers not rolling. Lots of ticking at 64,000 miles, so I replaced cam and all 6 lifters and rockers, and now it wont start. My question is this a magnet or front phaser component problem, or something the dealership could clear codes on. The fuel pump was failing prior to the camshaft replacement, but it will not start on starting fluid, so I have to assume it is a spark problem. Thanks for the help

May have seen this issue before (sarcasm). To say only once or twice would be an understatement! this photo was from one week of having a few of the 3.6L's fail. I would of replaced the hydraulic lash adjusters too while your there, cheap and those fail/collapse all the time too. Keep in mind not every week do this many fail its here and there just ironic I think it was 3 or 4 in one week.

I have seen A LOT worse! I recall one engine that I was pulling fists full of burnt oil out of the top of it.

Wow! I thought this issue was mostly on the 5.7.

Meh, Ive seen more 3.6L 's fail but it likely depends where you live or what you see most of the time I suppose. Roller bearings in the rocker fail and it drops down and chews the cam worse than jaws did that boat or the HLA collapses

Did you check the oil gallery bolts at the front of the heads behind the phasers. They have a habit of coming lose and cause oil pressure issues for the VVT system. Some of those codes are cam sensor circuit dtcs. Are they all plugged in? Are all those codes currently active faults, or just some of them?

How are you discussing warranty when you said you did a cam changeout? Did the dealer do this work? I'm confused???? If you did the work any warranty you might have had is now gone for sure. And if the dealer did the work, why did you take it apart? And i agree with the others, this engine looks like it was NOT well maintained with oil changes. That issue didn't happen overnight.
