Hi guys idk if anyone will be able to help me out but I have a 2009 ram 1500 laramie with the 5.7 and I just had a new engine put in it drive it 120 miles and now I have this inconsistent knock the sounds and feels like it’s coming from my oil pan, the thing is that as soon as the starter engages something will make a quick tick but than it won’t make any sort of noise till the idle goes down and probably couple minutes after it’s idling which is like 550 rpm it’ll start making a really gross inconsistent knocking noise that doesn’t match how fast the engine is spinning and as soon as there is any sort of throttle even it it goes to 650 rpm it goes away, there’s fresh oil and don’t see any metal in the oil, I’ve checked the flex plate and don’t look like it’s warped or loose, I checked the torque converter bolts that connects the TC to the flex plate and those are tight, I’m just really lost, I’m gunna bring it to a shop tomorrow but I was just hoping someone could maybe lmk and save me some money Thank you!

But wouldn’t you think you would see it move when I have the inspection cover off?

So you are under truck looking/listening while its being started/running?
Should be able to pry slightly on points around to find if there is a crack when engine is off.

Yes I was underneath looking and listening and it doesn’t sound like it’s coming from inside there and I’ve tried pulling pushes and it don’t budge, I feel in the oil pan and it feels like something is smacking the oil pan but it’s not very consistent or more random, I tried to add a video but it won’t let me and I don’t think it’s a spin bearing because the knocking goes away as soon as you touch the gas and basically go’s away when it’s in gear, I’ve checked my oil from the dip stick and there is no sparkles, I can’t pull the oil pan cause I’d have to take a lot of stuff of to do that and I don’t have that stuff with me, but I didn’t know if someone had the same problem and figured out what it was

New engine with 120 miles on it not good......hope it came with a warranty
If its not anything around the exhaust touching I would say internal
Maybe timing chain & tensioners.....even new parts can fail

Could also be that 1 or more of the torque converter bolts that attach to the flex plate are loose.
