hey all,

I’m looking for largest wheel width someone has run on a level with little to no trimming done. Was contemplating 20x10’s -24mm which is easily doable, with any tires in the 32-33” range. However, I would love 20x12’s if I could fit them.. I just have a feeling it’s not gonna happen. Any practical experience and informations greatly appreciated.

Also, if trimming the front valance under the bumper would need trimmed, I’m okay with that as I’ll just remove it. I just don’t want to go chopping into the rear of the fender well

Edit: I looked at customwheeloffset.com and there’s a lot of rams with 20x12’s and -44mm with 33’s that claim no rubbing or trimming, so it looks like it can be done. Would still like to hear if any of y’all have done it thought

When I had my 17 1500 I put 20x10 -24 with 305/55s. That was stock height with no rubbing.

So I decided I’m gonna go with 20x12 -44’s with 285/55/20’s. Judging by what I’ve seen and found research wise, it should be able to fit with zero rubbing. Wasn’t easy to figure that one out though. Had to leave no stone unturned haha

You do realize with this combo that your wheels will be wider than your tires? Using Cooper Discoverer A/T3 for an example, the tire section width is 11.7 inches and the tread width is 9.69 inches. IMHO with a 12 inch wheel, you need to run a much wider tire like a 305, 325 or 33X12.50 width.

That 285 tire width has me confused as well...unless your going for a stretched kinda look...
As for fender chopping, no chance of an part of the tire touching anything in the rear. Plenty of space in there.
Im on 20X9 w/ +18mm with 305/55/20

I agree. You aren’t going to want to go that small unless you want the tires to bow in. It’s going to look bad IMO. A 285/55r20 is a 32x11. If you want it to look the best on those 12 wides the minimum you need to go is a 305/55 which is a 33x12. You can go a 33x12.5 without rubbing if you want to go that route. Also note your suspension is going to take a big strain because you are changing the pitch of your suspension by 2.5 inches going from a +19 to a -44. This is definitely going to give you suspension issues down the road.

What look are you going for? How far do you want them to stick out and how full do you want the well?

Yeah I had taken that into account, was thinking about the stretched look. It wouldn’t be super stretched, since it’s close to a 12 inch measurement. I’m looking at the amp pro terrain AT’s however maybe I’ll keep the 305’s in play just for peace of mind

Yeah that was my plan. Not an excessive stretch look as some do, but maybe slightly. Always hard to imagine it until you have it though is the only downfall

I was pretty much going for the same distance of stance, with a deep lip wheel, without having to lift the vehicle any more than it already is, which is a 2.5” leveling kit up front. I’m not looking for big meaty tires as I’m trying to keep my fuel mileage since I’m in an ecodiesel. Basically I’m trying to achieve the street race truck look is what I like to call it

For reference.

Red 1500 with 20x12 -44mm with 285/55/20

Gunmetal grey 1500 with 20x12 -44mm with 305/50/20

I don’t notice much of a stretch on the red one, however that might just be my opinion

Also in my opinion, Either look fine, so I guess it just boiled down to a price difference

Another reference

Both vehicles have the tire

Red Ram is 305/55 on 20x12

Black Tahoe is 285/55 on 20x12

I now see a difference between the sidewall bulge and tread width, however I don’t think the 285s look all that bad visually

Honestly I think the 305/55 look better man. Fills up the well a little bit more. And the price isn’t too bad on those depending on what brand you get and how aggressive they are. I always seem to get mine at Discount Tire because 1. They are local, 2. They will match pricing, and 3. When you buy from them all your rotations and balances are free. Plus I am prior military so they always seemed to give me some good deals.

It’s a 25$ per tire difference between 285 and 305 in the brand and model I want so I probably will go 305 and chalk it up to safety :33:

I think if you got the 285s after all the comments you would notice it a lot more than you would if we never mentioned it. Lol. What tire you going with and what do your rims look like? I’ll probably eventually upgrade mine but can’t justify yet because the 19 Rebel puts duratracs on them and they are a decent tire. Only have 1600 miles on my truck right now.

Those 986s are nice. And damn looked up the price on those and they are definitely a good price for ATs. You will have to post some photos after your install.

Interestingly enough I looked up if wider would fit, for ***** and giggles... so far I’ve seen pictures of multiple ram 1500s that are lowered and are fitting 20x14’s -76mm on 305/50’s. Damn my curiosity:banghead:

I realize what look you are going for (based on your previous posts). However, one other thing to consider is the wider wheels with the higher negative offsets (-44 or -76) will push the wheels and tires significantly outside the fenderwells. In some areas, law enforcement will ticket you for this setup and you will then need to add fender flares to address this issue...

It’ll look good and won’t rub. I’m running 22x12 on 33x12.50r22 fuel mt’s on Bilstein leveling

Yeah I had that happen with my previous truck. however I was given a warning and asked to put them on, I did for a month and then hated them so I took them off. The cop that pulled me over was a local boy and he got fired years ago. I ever had issues again, so I’m hoping I’ll skate by. :Moon:

I'm running those tires your after. Had them on since January (15000km) and have had 0 issues with them. Little more road noise and a bit rougher ride (10 ply) but great otherwise. Most ppl think they are KO2's. But at almost 1/2 the price of the BFG's I'm impressed so far. I went with 305/55/20 on stock sport rims. No fitment issues even in entry/exit mode.
