So my ram has 50k on it currently. I warped the oem rotors at about 20k but it was really only noticeable in the summer. I ran them to about 47k in which I put R1 Concept E-line rotors on it with some powerstop brake pads. Well 3k miles later and I am starting to feel the same thing. Also the black coating has completely worn off the rotor, not just where the pad makes contact with the rotor, but the whole rotor. I have had centrics on quite a few vehicles in the past, and the coating never come off the hats of the rotor. Anyways I am looking for an actual upgrade over the stock rotors.

I see a few options besides the R1 concepts.

Centric (plain, plain/cryo, high carbon, high carbon/cryo)

Stop Tech who I believe is owned by centric has a few version (drilled, drilled/cryo, slotted, slotted/cryo)

EBC (A few different combinations of slotted and drilled)

Power stop

Etc.

I believe some of these if not most all start off as the same blanks and get milled but I could be wrong

Who has experience with what...

I dont think you can go wrong with either one really I've ran everything but R1. I think proper break in and making sure the slides are always lubricated. A bad set of calipers will roast any rotor and also driving habbit will cause it to. People that step on the brakes every second ruin their brakes.

I find rotors to be so hit/miss living in the rust belt that if I have the time, I mail order no name rotor, pad and hardware kits off eBay or Amazon. Never had a fitment or quality issue.

If I'm short on time or Im doing brakes for someone else, I'll get parts store parts.

I’ve got about 8k miles on my R1 concepts and braking is still very strong. I travel on congested highways which can require some high speed hard braking but not always to a stop. Other than that, mostly suburban roadways.

Once upon a time I worked for one of the minor cross drilled/ spotted rotor companies. OP is correct at least in my experience that all the blanks start out the same. Brembo was the preferred brand but anything could be drilled or slotted. When I replace my own breaks they get neither drilled or slotted. A quality pad for sure though for a Daily driver, Just be careful. The company I was with had a “kevlar” pad that was marketed as premium and priced accordingly. The kicker? They cost bout 5$ a set bulk price Performance was only a bit better than stockers at the time. If you live in the rust belt cadmium plating is worth the cost as it tends to slow (not stop) rust clogging the cooling veins. Wagner has(or bad) a line of black coated rotors I used on my 2012 Ram and was very happy with. When my new EcoD Needs breaks up probably use them again with an EBC or Hawk pad.

Improperly torqued wheels causes rotor warping, do you torque your lugs?

I drive pretty normal in my truck as I have a hellcat to have fun with. Maybe slightly more aggressive than the normal driver but no where near aggressive. I definitely had at least another 20-30k on the factory pads but I couldn’t deal with the warped rotors anymore.

Yup I torque them to the factory specs. I used to have a few newer GTO’s and those cars were sensitive to proper torquing of the wheels, so I always make sure I torque to factory specs.

I am good at worping rotors, I have the warped rotors put in a lathe. Rotors will not warp more than ones ;)

We HIGHLY recommend R1 Concepts however we do not recommend the E line. The Geomets are a much better rotor especially the coating. We like to combine the Geomets with the Posi-quiet pads. This combo has been used on may different applications and always brings back positive feedback. A lot of members here are running this combo and are very happy with it.

We have the package listed here

I was just looking into brake upgrades yesterday..
Has anyone used the Power Stop Z36 full kit with new calipers ?
Are the new calipers worth the money? Their ad only say "they perform better than stock" but I don's see anything to back that up.
