If I’m only putting a 2” level on the front do I need to put new control arms on? I’ve seen people say if you go above 2” the angle of the control arms will be too steep so you should but if I’m going with just 2” what do you think?

No you don't need to. I mean aftermarket control arms are usually better but you don't need to. Any level puts unwanted stress on your CV joints and ball joints but a 2 inch isn't too big of a deal.

I also probably should mention I am going up in tire size from 265/70/17 to 285/70/17 if that makes a difference

I did a 2.5 inch level on mine and did the Mevotech upper control arms on mine. If you leave the stock arms, the ball joints will more than likely pop out. Then you’ll be ordering new ones. So might as well do it all at once. They’re not expensive. Around $65 each. Mine have been on for 5 years and I have no issues. Just grease them every 10k miles or once a year in my case since I average 6k a year on it.
