Low/rough idle

Hello everyone. 2011 ram with the 5.7 here.
I’m having a problem where my truck will idle around 500 rpms when warmed up in park. It idles extremely rough when it does this. If I plug my Superchips in and set the idle to 700, it goes up and smoothes completely out. As soon as I unplug the tuner, it’s right back to 500 rpm and shaking the whole truck. If anyone else has this problem or knows anything about it I would appreciate some advice. I’ve already checked for vacuum leaks and found none. Thank you.

How many miles you got on there? Have you ever removed the throttle body and cleaned it? I would also recommend a good fuel system cleaner. A dirty throttle body affects idle big time!

135k miles, throttle body was recently cleaned by dealer and the fuel system was also “cleaned” by them too...

My 2011 with 138k, drops from 650 to about 500 on many occasions, mostly when I have the air conditioner set to off.

My idle is very smooth and my oil pressure stays around 38 at the 500 idle speed.

My truck never did this until I put the latest set of plugs in it at 120k. I also changed the coils to the 2015 and up coils.

This allowed me to run iridium plugs vs copper.

In addition to the positive effect of not having to change plugs every 30k, I also saw my idle smooth out and mileage increase.

My suggestion would be, perhaps it's time to update your coils and plugs.

Nothing last forever and the coils are service items at I believe 100k.

Plugs on your 11 are every 30k with copper plugs.

You can go iridium but it will cost $$_

been a problem alot 59,00 all new still idles like no gas stalls jumps up 600 gotta be something wrong 40 years working on cars trucks on side just tune it guess to speed it up now 50 rpm and works to fast so now tell me how u think it can be fixed right ?

My 4.7 does the same thing, but the idle is smooth at 500. She desperately needs a tune up so that’s what i’m equating that to.

EGR valve caused all that, it was bad, just not bad enough to kick on the the check engine light. Yeah....150 rpm, little shake, poor gas mileage.

hi years later after damage my neck ! the truck still has problem after first dealer so went to another who play games never fix acks like it is dang right ! ok a short in thoudle body cause engine to stop almost ! still goes to 500 in drive but the is a update for powertrain control gets rpms at 650 all the time . had a lot looked at feel its the cpm but seems the dealer wont fix it ! a guy even said this too ! so out of 2,000 so be a while to work on it again
