I have the manifold leaking causing the infamous tick. Do I need to replace the manifold or and can I just replace the gasket and bolts. I have the tick on both sides now

I had the tick on just one side (passenger). Took it to my mechanic (last month) and he just replaced the broken stud after checking the manifold for flatness. The tick is gone, will see how long that lasts.

I only changed bolts & gaskets with 35k on it. If you have high mileage it can't hurt to change the manifold i wouldn't want to do the job again

I 100% guarantee the manifold is warped. The spec is 0.008” per foot. Most of the time they are warped between 0.030-0.050. I’ve never seen one that wasn’t warped.

You can just throw the old one on, and be fine. You run a greater risk of it happening again though.

What I would do is get the manifold surfaced. Usually once they warp and you resurface them, they don’t warp again.

Take the manifolds off and have your local machine shop mill them on the Bridgeport Mill. Several of us have discussed this process in the last month. Out of all of the exhaust manifolds I have had milled or run them on my belt sander none of them have ever come back with broken bolts or warped. Once the manifolds have aged they have become "seasoned" which is how they have relieved their stress.

Pick up a new set of gaskets and replace all of the bolts also. Most of my local machine shops only charge $30-$50 to mill them. If you install a new pair of manifolds you will eventually have the same issue.
