Black to ground and light to a key on accessory. Possibly light switch. Use a test light to find which wire you want to splice into.

I’m very inadequate when it comes to electrical. Where might I find “accessory” please?

Accessory means when the key turns on so the light isn’t lit all day draining your battery. You could run a wire from the battery and put a aftermarket toggle switch in and when you want the light on, flip the switch. But again I think you are better off tying into the stock light switch so it shuts off when you turn the switch off.

Ok. I get that. Don’t want a switch. Just can’t figure where or how to splice it in.

These will work. You slide it over the wire you want to connect to and there’s a hole that you slide your wire from your gauge into. With pliers “crimp” the metal blade down which connects the wires. The best method is to solder the wires. I don’t have a wiring diagram for what wire going to the headlight switch you need to splice into. Maybe someone else can chime in.

The red ones should be the size you need of the connector I posted.
