My dad has a 2001 1500 4x4 with the 318 in it. He has a code for a cylinder 4 misfire. He did plugs, wires, checked compression, changed injectors, and still has the code! Any idea what to check next? Would doing the plenum gasket help? I am trying to sell it for him, so any help would be appreciated! The motor has a pretty bad tick too. Would that be related? It's been a while since I drove it, but form what I remember it was pretty bad!

Any help at all is appreciated.

Pull that valve cover on the pass side look for a broken valve spring, or you might have a dead lifter (not loading up).

I believe he also checked that.

Has the pcm been reset after he did his work? Need to clear the code and see if it comes back. A tick will not be caused by the plenum gasket, so its a lifter or a rod bearing. How did he check the lifters, did he pull the intake or?

Well I know he took the valve cover off. I'm not sure exactly what he checked. And yes everything was reset, then the code came back.

What about that recall they did for how the plug wires were routed? Wasn't there something on that years ago? There was something about one plug wire crossing another. It was TSB. Probably not it, but glad I could remember it. :)

can you tell us more about the "pretty bad tick"? One that's not running right will throw a misfire code too.
