Maybe I should get some better shots, there is about 1/4" of room from the LED base and headlight housing

Cost $200 for heads and fogs, right at quality HIDs cost without the wiring headaches.

Love my Morimoto HID's (FR-X retro Projector head Low Beam) and Fogs
...all work flawlessly with canbus adapter system (no relay harness at all)

...but HID's are no bueno as high bulb replacement
that needs quick on/off flash ability, and half power as my DRLS in my Canuck Ram (that originally had Quads).

I wonder if the 9005 LED is too big to squeeze into the high beam socket
and still get the dust cap back on for a 13+ Projector housing?

I want these in my 2007! I'm going to wait and see how these turn out. Anybody do a stock vs LED comparisons?

I see issues with the fit and heat build up. Also is the cap going back on?

I thought that too and the problem won't be it touching, but once that LED heats up. The heat as very little ways to escape. We will see.

Perfect for the fogs though.

Thanks for the pics and info, still on the fence for these for my fogs. Not sure if there better than HIDs from what I've read so far.

Waiting for night time pics.

Yea i was thinking about drilling a couple holes in the dust cover to help the heat get out. Looking forward to night as well, they are expensive when talking about lighting but having dealt with cheap HIDs and wiring issues I'll never use them again if possible

I was going to suggest that about drilling some holes.

I've never had any serious issues with HIDs. I mean yeah I changed a few ballast here there but the **** is cheap. I'm talking over a 10 year period, maybe changed 3 or 4 ballast.

Drilling holes may cause issues with moisture in the headlights.

I wonder if Retro can get them to us for cheaper?

There are cheaper priced ones.

Look on ebay.
led headlights | eBay

But you need to check the lumens and I do like these Morimoto since they don't have a fan. Instead just heat sink like a amp. My gut is telling me that the fan would be the first thing to go, then bam LED burns up.

I have a set of the 9006 here. Seems pretty bright......in the shop. I dont' have anything here with a 9006 to test on at night!

If these are something that people are going to want, I can certainly start stocking them. Our prices have to stay on par with TRS (as part of our reseller agreement), but that doesn't mean I can't ship it for free in the lower 48 (like I do on all of their stuff now!).

There's always something cheaper on eBay.

I even got in a set of LEDs for the new projector lights from China a few weeks back. Found a set that fit behind the dust cap........it sucked ass. HORRIBLE output. The person I shipped them to for testing......I just said "do with them as you please, I don't even want them back". Got what I paid for there. :superhack:

There always is. Just has to be trial and error until the tech is there.

The prices on these will keep coming down. Just like HIDs were $500-600 when they first came out. I didn't buy my first set until they were $160, then the following year they dropped to $100.. lol

The copper base is probably no more than 2.5" thick and 3" diameter so not sure what you can conclude from there...
JJ I would stock them to be honest, as these come around to be more common the fact the wiring is a lot simpler and quality from morimoto is there.
I'll get some night shots soon

Yikes, 3" diameter would not work in the high bulb spot.

No biggie, my FX-R's function in Low and High mode anyway.

The wiring is stupid simple for HID's when you use the canbus adapter
the only difference is the addition of a Ballast so I dont see why the LED has a major wiring advantage.

Yea maybe for the projectors but I have the quads so it's a little different. Any way some output shots for you guys..

Heads and fogs

Heads only

Fogs only

Heads only

Fogs

Both

I'm overall happy with the end result. I'll get some better far out put shots when I go back to families house in th country but I think this does a good job of showing it.

Not bad I guess but could be a potential issue with on coming traffic in a quad reflector housing
with out a clean cut off only a projector can provide...

Extra light is great but not when its scatter effect is uncontrolled and into oncoming traffic's eyes.

Note Jeremy's fence top is actually about 4 feet above the cut off line...
FX-R_zps55106ad2.jpg

a buddy recently installed a $200 LED light bar on his Cummins
and its definitely good for off road use only or when no other traffic is around.

Maybe an LED in a Projector lamp would be a better choice?

keeping that beam low and flat and wide, not up... is key (IMHO)

Definitely agree, I just don't want to put the money on projectors right now. I have one Laramie housing just need another but my truck is for sale right now with hopes of getting a diesel. Or may down grade to a Jeep to save money and help pay for engagement rings, new place etc so I just wanted to fulfill my mod itch hahaha. If it sells I'll take em with me and sell em or install in diesel.
Projectors would be ideal, but surprisingly I have yet to be flashed by traffic wheras on my Commander I had HIDs in everyday I'd get flashed and I've been driving around all night without one. It's scattered but not as much
