I just had my a JL sub & mono amp installedi my reg cab truck & it does not integrate well at all with the Alpine premium system. The sub sounds overpowering, boomey & thumps where it is annoying as hell. In fact I disconnected it because the stock system sounds better with out it. The sub & amp were from my old truck which was married to an Alpine after market head unit & the system sounded awesome in my old truck. I also had to put the sub in a smaller enclosure so it would fit behind the seat in my RAM, but I really think the issue is the stock stereo. What can I do to make it sound good the way it should...a separate volume control maybe? Please advise audio gurus.

Its probably the tweeter in the rear headliner, take those out and the sub will prob sound better. :Big Laugh:

I kid i kid, Try what those guys said^^^ If you dont have a dmm, just turn the gain know down by hand, while music is playing, and see if it makes an audible difference. What kind of amp is it? it may have some kind of crossover settings or something not set right. If not, report back and see what we can figure out

it's a JL G1300 which has no gain knob on it. The sub is a JL 10W1V2.4

If your LOC has adjustments on that also you may need to play with those also

try this...

g1300.jpg

starting from left to right...

Input voltage = low
Remote = Are you using a bass knob? If not, do you have one?
Bass boost = off (what this usually does is jack one frequency up for perceived loudness)
Input sentitivity (gain) = all the way counterclockwise should be down all the way down. turn it about 1/4 way up to start
filter mode = LP
filter freq = 60ish

See how it sounds then.

I've noticed mine sounds like garbage as well. I have had mine tuned and everything. I think it's the fact the factory head unit limits signals at certain volumes. A lot of bass notes on country songs don't come through well but rap is boomy muddy and over powering. It's the same system I had in my old Silverado with the factory system and it sounded great. I even moved it to my wife's jeep gc and with it changing any settings it sounded a ton better.

if you are using a basic LOC thats the issue with the alpine system you nee d good DSP that you can tune to get the best sound.

I installed a single 12" Alpine type R in my 2013 with the 8.4 radio, and used the Audiocontrol LC2i and i'm in the same boat as you. Sub just doesn't sound good at all. Sounds like it's hitting notes it shouldn't be, and very muddy. Even tuned the amp with a multimeter and that made it worse because now it's no louder then the factory sub was.

Very frustrating after spending all that money to say the least.

Some say the rear speaker leads don't get a full signal. You may want to try and tap the front speakers and see if that makes it better.

Does your truck have a factory amp?
That is what essentially has the pre-set eq...not the HU
If you have the factory amp, then it makes sense....you're tapping the signal down stream from the factory amp and the amp is coloring your subwoofer response with the factory pre-sets....I could be wrong tho.
LOTS of guys are having the same issue....the only success I have heard with these systems is by getting the full range signal before the factory amp....so basically right off the factory HU, up stream from the factory amp

You need to clean full range signal without Mopars' factory eq set in....a summing device will help as well...basically cleaning up the signal

See that's where I'm confused because I seen a ton of answers say the opposite, saying the rear speakers get full signal and to tap those instead. But when I get the chance i'll try tap the fronts instead and see if that makes a difference.

try getting signal at the headunit, not after the amp.
(if it is the alpine package)
One day ill get my hands on one of these trucks with alpine and settle all this bs once and for all.
