Well, I found another of these things in the parts box it is contained in a sort of a container. Leads me to believe that it is a restrictor for oil but I'll be darned if I can find a spot for it. I've looked through the diagrams that someone was kind enough to post but this part doesn't show up. The piece on the left has the piece on the right inside of it. It looks like there is an "O" ring seal just under the lip at the top and a plastic or nylon washer under the O ring.

Here is a better view of that part. I have no idea where it might reside in that engine. The spring sits in that little hole on the right side of the "plug" and then it (spring and plug) slide into that "can" on the right.

Have a look at the parts diagram for the Transmission cooler control line. It looks a little like part of the temp control but I am going from memory as I have never personally taken one apart.

Thank you for that info. I got this engine a couple of years ago, engine only. Someone could have thrown that part into the used engine just for giggles, I suppose. I will
What brand of potato did you use to take those pics? ;) :Big Laugh:
Well, I'm old and not as steady as i once was.

Thank you for the info. By the look of the photos, the transmission cooler control valve components appear to be bigger than what I am dealing with.

I checked the front cover and also the oil pump, no indication that there could be a place for that part. It is just the darndest mystery.

It looks to me like the plunger assembly for a solenoid of some sort.

We use these small solenoids at work and they have a plunger very similar to what you have.

The coil would be around the outer sleeve, and when energized, the plunger moves up and compresses the spring. The valve opens.

When the coil de-energizes, the spring pushes the plunger back down again, and the valve closes.

Yes, it is a "plunger" style of sorts but no electrical in the area. I guess I'll visit a local stealership to see if any Tech can identify it.

Here's a valve like I was describing:

Hopefully, you find out it's just a random part that isn't supposed to be there.
