I have a 2011 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi. Yesterday i changed the brakes and rotors on the rear. Passenger side was OK but i changed them anyway because i knew i had to replace the driver's side. The brake pad that was closest to the caliper had been ground to the metal. When i inspected the caliper, i discovered the piston was leaking and the rubber was cracked, the piston also would not go all the way in.

This is the first truck i ever owned and i got it 5 months ago. Kinda a bummer i have to do this job so soon but oh well, **** happens.

Anyway, ive never done a caliper install. from what i can see, its just the one brake line i have to take off the old and put on the new?

I have not yet purchased a repair manual for my vehicle, nor have i been able to find any helpful videos or guides online.

advice would be appreciated. I need to get this baby put back together in time for work lol.

If you want to save some loot, you can get rebuild kits for them, otherwise you’ll need a new one. But, yes, it’s just the brake line and maybe an abs sensor wire (if equipped) witch is easy, just make sure to prefill the caliper with fluid before install, then you will need to bleed all four corners. Hope this helps and good luck.

Side note: brake fluid is very corrosive so be careful with it, I learned the hard way and ruined a paint job on a vehicle by mistakenly dropping the bottle and having it splash all over, so just be careful.

I saw one youtube video about it and it was an unrelated vehicle.

Honestly, not trying to be rude but I think you should let someone else do the work. Brakes are NOT something you want to be messing with if you are not 100% comfortable or competent.

When I did mine, I did not pre fill the caliper. Just take off the old and reinstall new one in reverse order. Just make sure to use a new banjo bolt and copper washer. Bleeding the caliper is the same as YouTube videos. Bleed the one you changed first, than the rear pass, rear driver than front pass. Shouldn't be much air in it left after you bleed the new calpier.
