I am doing a cam swap one of my lifters or multiple are noisy. Question. 110k miles and lifters are like 900 dollars for 16. I am keeping MDs, and going with stock replacement MDS cam. If I inspect lifters can I reuse the other lifters if they show no damage? Obviously the 8 MDs lifters are getting replaced. I welcome all thoughts. I understand it’s a crapshoot, but I may go with 2 sets OEM MDS lifters and reuse 8 of the others. I’m on a budget. But will spend the extra money for lifters that are good.

Going through a bad lifter on my truck. Only 1 bad of 16, but have 201,000 miles on the truck.

Mine was a non-MDS lifter that shat the bed, cylinder 5 intake.

Since I'm already in there, its gonna get all new, along with a MDS cam, oil pump, timing set, head bolts, head gaskets, etc. OE on all interior parts.

Don't cheap out, dont buy on Amazon (lots of counterfeit parts that even look like OE) for critical components IMHO.

As others have said, buy once, cry once, and you don't want to replace just 1 lifter (some shops will do this, believe it or not) and have others fail shortly after, and have to tear her down again.

P.S. Check your oil control valve for metal shavings, if there's lots, you have other decisions to make.

Good luck on a complete and lasting repair.

Plus, once you are that far into this engine, especially if you drop the oil pan and replace the oil pump and timing components, about the only thing left in the enging are the cam, crank, and rod bearings, piston rings and rear main seal.

That's why I suggested checking the oil control valve for shavings, if it's loaded with shavings, it's also circulated through the bearings.

Cam bearings look like a giant pain in the balls to replace, IMO.

You've come to the right place, there's lots of members here who have lots of experience with these engines (not me), and they will steer you right.

Thank you guys. I see moparonline and mopar. It looks to be about 168 for 4 lifters, so about 700?

5038785AD and 5038786AD are the ones I was quoted for my '15 SLT

Don't believe any difference for the '16, but hopefully someone else wil chime in.

You can message Benny at @AllMoparParts.com

Give him your VIN, and he will give you the correct part# and quote.

Mopar is pretty much always wrong on what fits.

My truck is packed full of parts that "don't fit". Apparently My spare key fob doesn't fit, nor the water pump, the RF hub and the passenger seat airbag harness.

Oh, and my power steering rack doesn't fit either it's been discontinued! And none of the other years will work! :anitoof:

I wont say I havent re used some here and there due to the cost of them right now it depends on what the customer wants they have all worked out none have had issues thus far. nevertheless its a bad idea its all apart just replace it all and you will get another 100k out of the engine.

Since there's a possibility of metal in oil from any failed part, I'd opt for a full set, I suggest the cam kit to everyone... I personally have stage 3 MDS in mine, it didn't fail, I just wanted the upgraded power and performance...

Things that are made of metal and require a lubrication environment will wear under use and eventually fail. Will the price you save on using some old parts be worth ripping the engine apart again to replace a failed lifter and maybe another cam?

As a matter of practice it is never wise to have a previously used lifter roll on a new cam lobe surface.

I believe the old motto was “if they play together, then they stay together “

Can anyone recommend a mopar factory cam and lifters, and new pushrods for my 2016? I want a stock profile , I don’t race and all. No tune. Maybe a bundle with all the appropriate gaskets?
Also does any member in NY do installs?

Yea, when I was a kid I had an uncle who used to tell me "Kid, you're f@cked-up like polio".

I didn't necessarily agree, but could see where he's comin from.

It’s hard to find a stock HEMI comp, melling, or name your company grind. I searched websites and they are all delete, which I totally get. Being a 16’ it is hard with limited tuning options
