I just recently turned 16 and saved up enough money to buy my first truck which is a 1997 dodge 1500 5.9l was wondering what all I should do as far as upgrades any suggestions. I've got ideas or what I want my truck to look like but I'm still so lost on what to do or anything. First goal is to make her run better and get up to date on everything but if you have any suggestions on what to do would be much appreciated!

Welcome! This forum has helped me build my 99 sport, so it should help you with your truck. First issue, ANY problems, check engine lights, transmission issues? Cause its best to fix those before you even start a build.
