E-Torque really does nothing unless you do a LOT of in town stop and go traffic. That's where the E-Torque with the stop-n-go saves fuel. I get around 20mpg+ on rural roads with the occasional highway and some in town, and I really don't think the E-Torque has as much to do with it as the MDS.
Maybe, but driving style has a lot to do with fuel economy too. Maybe more than MDS and etorque combined.

For sure. There are so many variable that they can't be counted. Jack-rabbit driving is a real killer, along with 80mph freeway driving. And jacking up and big tires will punch a hole in your wallet. I was just responding to the OP's and olyelr E-Torque thoughts.

Thats the thing though, i dont do city driving. We have 3 stop lights in my entire county. Mainly just 55mph country roads. I have not changed my driving style one bit between my ‘17 hemi and this new truck with e-torque. I am very conscious about trying to get good mileage, and know how to do it. Always got 18-20 mpg with the old truck. Have yet to get over 16 with this one.

I expected the off road package and 3.92 gears to make it suffer some, but didnt think it would be that much.

I will report back in a few months once i get some summer time mpg’s calculated !

I was planning to get a 2026 RAM 1500 Limited Longhorn Hemi with eTorque. You fellows have pretty much persuaded me to strongly consider omitting the eTorque.
Are they offering the limiteds with the hemi again? Last i knew it was the straight six HO only.

3.92's but 2WD. And most driving at 50/55. All vehicles are a lottery ticket. Some winners, some losers, bur most in between. If you figure the thousands of parts in these things, along with the computers and miles of wires, not even considering that they are supplied from countries that hate us, it's a wonder that they run at all. I guess we just get what we get, and deal with it along with all the other manufacture offerings.

Yeaaaaa. Even if i knew the mpg’s were gonna take a hit i would have still got this thing…i love it ! Definitely wish you could option it without the stupid e-torque though, but oh well.

You will have to delete the Hemi then and go with the Hurricane motor.

I just replaced my ‘17 big horn 5.7 (no etorque) truck with a ‘26 big horn 5.7 e-torque truck.

Had the ‘17 since it was brand new. Put 153k trouble free miles on it. Always averaged 17-19 mpg in the summer, 15-16 in the winter. Squeezed plenty of 20 mpg tanks out of it over the 8 years i had it.

Ive got 6000 miles on the ‘26, and have yet to see a tankful better than 16 mpg.

The new truck does have the off road package (slightly taller suspension and slightly more aggressive tires), and it also has 3.92 gears, so i having been blaming that on the worse mpg’s. Also, it has been winter since i got the truck…so a lot of 4x4 driving as well as a lot of warm up idling, which certainly does not help.

But, the more i drive it the more i am pretty dang sure the e-torque hemi simply gets worse mpg’s than the non e-torque. Quite a let down really, as thats basically all the stupid system was designed for from what i gather.

Hope all goes well with the repair for you. Keep us updated.
With a lift, more aggressive tires, and a 3.92 differential not broken in, You're taking quite a hit over your previous truck.

By the way, your description is listing a 2016 with a 6.4 engine.

Yes. You can get the Hemi w/etorque in any trim level above an Express, except for the Tungsten which only comes with the HO Hurricane.

Yea, i figured it would be worse, just didnt think quite so bad. I had heavy LT tires on my last truck too (bfg ko2’s). The lift from the off road package is fairly minimal, maybe an inch, but i guess its a factor. The biggest difference is probably the 392 gears. And the damned e-torque!

E-Torque will not cost mpg, and may even be a no gain in your case. If you are running oversized or traction tires, the 3.92's might even help offset the torque loss.

100% stock at the moment. When it comes time for new tires i will probably go a little bigger, but not much.

My ‘24 Rebel GT, with 3.92 gears has etorque. From the day I picked it up? The best MPG I saw was 17. And that was going down hill with a tail wind. I usually averaged 15 to 16.

I added a 4inch lift with 20in AT tires. And now I average high 14s most of the time.

The ‘17 Rebel I had before this was also a 3.92 gear truck. It had the air adjustable suspension, so I didn’t lift it. I put on 20 inch tires and wheels and left it in Off Road 1 mode. It averaged 16 plus MPG.

Didn’t purchase this one, or any previous truck, worrying about MPG. But do wonder why this one gets noticeably worse fuel mileage

That’s pretty much what my 23 1500 gets in around town driving with 3.92 gears. With the off-road package that’s probably pretty good. I wish my mpg computer was accurate. I manually check it every tank and it’s never been less than at least 1.0 mpg too high, often 1.2 to 1.3 mpg too high.

My ‘17 was always around 1 mpg too high give or take, too.
