I just noticed this and a passenger restraint recall on my unconnect this week. Will dealers typically give you loaner cars for these recalls?

My steering wheel nuts came loose by several threads coming down Red Grade Road, WY.

The steering wheel centering suddenly went off by some 90 degrees. The steering nuts were both fixed with applying Loctite prior to re-tightening by an alignment shop in Sheridan.

Don't feel bad. My Mercedes had 8 recalls on the 3 years I had it.

My brother retired from GM and his wife still works there so if/ when I get rid of the PW I am buying a new GMC Denali since I can get GMS pricing. Plus I really like the looks of GMC vs Chevy trucks.
I just need to keep this one for another year or two because it’s paid for and I am not ready to take the hit on trade in

I was at my dealer in Houston yesterday and asked about this recall. They told me they don't have the parts available yet. Weird, since when I read the details on the recall the first step was to check the current torque and see if any subsequent work needed to be done. Evidently they (my dealer) are expecting 100% of affected trucks to need new parts.

Anyone else had their truck in for this recall yet?

Steering is a critical component of any vehicle. For the safety of others not so mechanically inclined as yourself, please don't second guess as to what the fix to the recall is. Best to be resolved by a certified mechanic due to FCA liabilities.

I am well aware of what the steering issue is due to having it occur during the descent on a narrow steep mountain Wyoming grade. My family and I were immediately aware of the steering situation. Mine was fixed by a certified front end specialist mechanic prior to the recall. I know that you mean right in your question to fix it yourself.

If it were my truck, I would be out there right now loctite-ing the nuts just like that front end specialist did.

That Doesn't mean I wouldn't take it to the dealer for the real fix, but why risk it happening while FCA figures out how the heck to fix it?

I had mine in on Wednesday and they said no one has the parts yet and it could be a month or two???
I am in a small town so maybe that’s why, I could drive to a larger town/dealership I guess but I try to keep it local and they take good care of me.

If you crawl just under the front of your truck there is a LARGE bar that connects your two front wheels and located toward end by drivers side front wheel are three items on the bar
1 large turnbuckle, 1 large nut on EACH end of turnbuckle. Make sure steering wheel is perfectly centered inside cab. If it isn’t perfect loosen nuts on each end and turn the turnbuckle to straighten steering wheel.
Once it’s perfect back the nuts off about 3 or 4 complete turns then put red Loc-tite on exposed threads, tighten nut back up and do the other side the same way. I just bought two small pipe wrenches from Walmart and a little short sledge hammer from them. On a scale of difficulty it was a 1 on 1 to 10. If you are not sure someone may have a pic, if not I will take one today and post this evening.

Its the nuts on each side of the adjuster sleeve on the drag link. Its job is to allow the steering wheel to be centered.

When I put the leveling kit on my tuck the steering was obviously way off. Loostened up the two nuts, adjusted it center, and tightened the nuts back down. That was about two years ago. Hasnt came loose yet.

Below is a pic I pulled off the net...

Its the drag link not the tie rod. Goes from the pitman arm to the passenger side knuckle.

Recheck the drag link nuts after a tire alignment. Mine didn't come loose with the FCA factory assembly torque of them, but after they were re-tightened with the centering of the steering wheel during a tire alignment at a 4x4 shop. There were fresh chalk marks on all three threaded drag link components.
