I have a 14 express tailgate handle with a lock. I am looking to find a part# of an earlier handle that doesn't have a lock since I have trouble getting the tailgate to close without opening the cover plate and working the actuator rods to keep it from opening while driving. I wold love to get rid of my setup and snip the wires on my electric lock.

I wold love to get rid of my setup and snip the wires on my electric lock.

You can just unplug the power lock actuator in the tailgate so that it doesn't lock on your current handle assembly.

There was a recall on the tailgate handle that addressed the problem of the tailgate opening due power lock overdriving the latch.

There is a recall to fix this. Take it to your dealer for a free fix or buy the rubber insert to install it yourself.

the problem is the recall deals with 15 and newer. mine is not covered since it is a 14.

They extended it to 14s. I said the same thing when I found the recall. If you want to fix it yourself its very easy. I fixed it myself and then the dealership did a fix on top of the fix even though I told them I already performed the recall and not to touch it (I always back in and a randomly falling tailgate is an insurance claim waiting to happen)...if you're interested in doing it yourself I'll dig up the part number. The dealers spacer is the one next to mine (there should only be one, they broke it in a whole new way).

The recall also involved 2014 Ram models with the six and eight foot bed, and the power locking tailgate.

My 2014 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman crew-cab 4x4 was the subject of the recall and I had it fixed at the dealer.

Originally it was 15+, very annoying for 14 owners with the problem.

I have a 14 also ,the part to fix this costs under 5 dollars. Takes about ten minutes to fix yourself. No need to buy a new handle ,just the little piece of rubber to fix it.
