I think I went at the wrong side to take the valve cover off? I’ve been trying to take the left side (drivers side) but I’m not seeing how it’s going to come out? I’ve taken the electrical clips off the injectors, all the clips off towards the front but the harness will only move so far due to it splitting down below. And the oil dipstick tube is in the way, as well as the oil fill pipe. I was originally taking this side off because the misfires were in cylinders 3, 7 and 8... is it possible to get this valve cover off without removing the air conditioning lines or the dipstick filler tube?? The bolt for the tube is in a location upside down that I don’t think I could get it off

I got that valve cover out, basically undid ever electrical connector I could see to allow the harness to move a little, then after fighting with it for an hour finally figured to slide the cover down and tilt while pulling on harness was able to to get the harness under the cover and then still very tight to get out.
ANYWAYS I think I found the problem the pushrod is about 1/4” to 3/8” away from the rocker arm. To me that’s saying hydraulic lifter or cam or both or possibly bent pushrod but I don’t think so. ?? What do you guys think? And what is my next step? Anything you can think of that may help me, through the next steps is very appreciated. This is my first time really except for the 1985 Tempo being inside or even around a 4 stroke engine so my understanding of everything is pretty non existent

Next step is remove the intake manifold, then pull the VVT solenoid and see how much metal is on it's screen. The VVT solenoid is the one that's on the front of the engine horizontal with the ground, the 4 MDS solenoids are in the intake valley and run vertical.

I’m not sure if these pictures are big enough to read? just wondering if you agree with the instructions in this Haynes manual? I do have to remove the fuel rail? Step 8 remove the wiring harness support from the rear of the manifold, will this be straight forward? Is there any way to get the wiring harness out of the way?

Manual says to relieve the fuel
Pressure to remove the 20amp ASD fuse and start the engine. Do I really need to do this? I really don’t want to start the engine again now

Thank you, it had roughly 107,500 miles. As for oil I would need to go out in my barn/shop and have a look but I do know it’s not the right oil, it could be Mobil 1. Oddly earlier in the day I met a fellow who is a Ram guy he advised me to use a specific Valvoline oil but now I can’t remember which one it was.
Valvoline Restore and protect.

Sorry for all the questions questions. Step 10 says to remove the throttle body bracket if installed, does this mean to remove the throttle body? Does the right side valve cover need to come off first before the intake manifold? I find I can’t find any you tube video’s on this oddly enough

Just throw a rag under the fuel rail connector when you disconnect it,you can leave the throttle body attached to the manifold if you want, just disconnect it's connector. No point in removing the injectors or fuel rail from the manifold, just disconnect their wiring. There will be 2 connectors and a bigger brake booster vacumn hose at the back of the manifold that you'll need to disconnect before the manifold will come off,if the vacumn hose gives you static, sometimes it's easier to disconnect at the brake booster. On the 6.4 i think you'll have to disconnect the egr to,before the manifold will come off.The rad will have to come out,but you can usually leave the A/C condensor hooked up,just remove any brackets holding the lines in place,so you can tip the condensor off to the side for clearance to remove the cam. You'll have the gold plated 1234rf freon, and you don't want to lose any of it,by disconnecting the condensor,so that means you'll have to leave the condensor attached and work around it.
If you watch a few video's and follow Kurtis's/Charonblks thread they'll help out alot

There's more video's if you go looking Burt, these are just 2 that i found by googling camshaft replacement on a Ram,most video's will be on the 5.7,but the 6.4 is basically the same procedure except for the egr

If you scroll down a fair bit, you'll find a few video's on the differant aspects of doing the cam, like cylinder head removal etc.

Thanks @Wild one , I’ve been looking at a couple video’s and it’s not looking to bad, I’m sure it’s a very basic procedure once you’ve done it before but I’ve found there is at least 2 kinds of people when it comes to DIY auto repairs. 1. The guy who jumps right in and starts turning bolts 2. The guy who researches it first., I may have made the second guy up, but that’s me, I will usually always research the HE double hockey sticks of whatever I’m doing, stress myself over it for days and days while I research it, then once I’ve done it, I usually realize that I got myself all worked up for nothing and that it wasn’t so bad after all. Lol, but when you don’t know, .... you. I will look over all the links you sent tomorrow Thanks again

I grew up long before we had the internet,so we did things the hard way, lol.
I'll admit a video does help if there's one available

I’m 49 so I grew up without the internet as well, As much as I dislike the internet sometimes it does have its advantages
Alot of times i'll jump into a job,and when i hit a stumbling block, then i go looking for a video, and find out i could have saved a couple steps after the fact, lol.
I do alot of things that don't have a video,so there's some head scratching involved at times.Case in point when i relocated the battery in my truck, and had to figure out how to make a master disconnect switch shut the truck down to be NHRA legal :waytogo:

Yes,,had i have just followed the directions in the Haynes manual I would have been taking the front drive shaft out, front axle out, oil pan off, oil pump off. Actually If I only had the Haynes manual I wouldn’t have taken anything off because I would have flat bedded it to the dealership

The intake manifold off, next step is looking at the VVT solenoid screen? Is the VVT something you can point out on the picture? If not, I will have a look later tonight, just at a Christmas dinner now. Also I wanted to ask, is there any possibility that this issue is due to a faulty mds solenoid? Or possibly just a collapsed lifter? It did happen so suddenly.

It's not really viewable in that photo Burt,it's just out of sight on the front of the engine behind the timing cover, under the egr cooler.
