Got my hands on a factory AUX PDC so figured why not wire it up! It was actually a pretty simple install. Just had to run one wire to the main PDC for the trigger, the 5 AUX wires into the cab to the switch panel, and power and ground for the AUX PDC.
The only hiccup I ran into is getting the AUX settings to show up in the EVIC and Uconnect. I believe this is another issue with radio software changes. Because the AUX switches were not a factory option on 1500’s, those settings do not show up even if you turn them on. I tested this theory by using alfaobd to update my truck as a 2500 (which isn’t a fix since this will trigger other codes) and the AUX settings did show up in the EVIC almost immediately (and then disappeared when I changed the settings back to a 1500). The good news is, you can still use alfaobd to update the individual AUX switch settings, it’s just not as convenient as having them available in the EVIC/Uconnect.
